Welcome Aboard!
My name is E.G. and I have three sons and a beautiful daughter. I also have the most amazing wife, Cindy. Our oldest son "Evan" served as an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca and my family and I couldn't have been prouder.
My Navy Dads journey began when my son enlisted in April, 2008. I started building NavyDads.Com while he was still a recruit at RTC in Great lakes. I designed, built, and launched NavyDads.com June 18, 2008, two days before his Navy graduation.
My hope is that this site will help Navy Families find answers to questions, share concerns, help another along, and lastly, a place to show their pride for their Sailor.

What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:
Thanks, I have 2 boys currently serving in the Navy, one on the Boxer and the other in Virginia. The younger of the 2 will be in San Diego before to long , which will make it easier for family visits. The Navy has been great for both boys. Hope to go on tiger cruise some time soon.
will do. i just checked on how class 290 is doing during hellweek, and the word is that they are beat up and tired but doing well.if any has heard any thing please post it. thanks
Hello E.G.! Been thinking about you and Cindy for quite some time now. Hope all is well with you and the rest of your family. Hoping to get involved in Navy Dads and N4M's again. It has been a long time, really, since I've been on either one. Would love to get an update from you or Cindy on how things are going. She and I never had our phone chat last summer. :)
I'm not military, so the first thing I did was read OPSEC. My son enlisted in 2005 and has done a couple of deployments (Enterprise and Truman). He received the Navy and Marine Achievement Medal with the Truman. He was recently promoted to AT1. This is coming on the heels of his being selected for OCS as a Flight Officer Candidate.
I am ex-Air Force and two of my older sons entered bootcamp about a week apart - my older one is in the Navy, the younger in the Air Force. I know the least about the Navy, this site you created seems to ave a wealth of good info!
Elmo, I really appreciate your email and I am so glad that I found 'Navy Dads'. Our son is completing his 2nd week of boot camp and I anxiously awaiting the first phone call or letter to see how he surviving boot camp. I look forward to posting his progress once we get that first letter or call.
My son is on a plane now for Chicago. His life will not be the same after he gets off that bus at Great Lakes. Thanks for all the welcome and support on this site. Gene
Elmo, thanks for the info. I'll be sure to give it all a look. I was an enlisted Nuc (one of the last IC's) and went on to become a Naval Flight Officer after an NROTC scholarship to the University of Florida where I got my engineering degree.
I was so proud of Matt's decision; he's doing so very well. We have received a dozen or so phone calls since he's been on the Lincoln and I can honestly say that we have not heard the first negative word. Thankful for that.
Elmo: Thanks for the comments and support. We're somewhat experienced with USN as our oldest is an 11-year LCDR. Our youngest enlisted in May is about to complete boot camp, then soon (we hope) off to BUDS. We'll try to share what we know with others who are less experienced.
Thanks, Elmo i'm sure i will be using this site alot since i'm sure i will have a lot of questions. Even though my daughter was in the dep program for almost 1 yr, this last month has been a whirlwind. again thanks for the welcome aboard and look forward to talking to you in the future.
Elmo, thanks for your supporting words and launching this site and movement to keep parents informed and linked to others who are new to this experience.
We just got the call from our son yesterday that he completed battle station yesterday and will
graduate tomorrow 7/13! We are so proud that he made it, because this was his decision. Wa have another 17 year old hig school sr approached by the recruiter but have not made his decision yet
Again, thanks for your support! Looking forward to new experiences. Go Navy!
Elmo, A HUGE thank you for creating this site! I'm a newbie to this so I find coming here to be both helpful and comforting. Your efforts here along with the rest of your staff are greatly appreciated!
Thanks to all for your kind words, we live in San Diego, so we are HUGE fans of all things Navy & Marines. My step-son Mike is currently at RTC and I am sure getting quite the experience. He is going to be a Corpsman, and plans to go "Greenside" when he's done with schooling. Very proud, and glad to have this site available to us.
Elmo,
Thank you for welcoming me into the NavyDads family and thank you for creating this website. On the day i was dropping off my son I was looking all over the web to make sure I hadn't forgot anything that he would need. Felt like I didn't have everything together for him to go, and he certainly didn't have it himself. I found your website and immediately felt better. I will certainly be much better informed and feel like a part of another family as Greg navigates his way through his Naval service. Thank you for the welcome aboard and thank to your son for his commitment and service.

Thank you for the welcome. I am helping my 19 year old great nephew prepare for bc in April. He will be entering the nuclear power program. He has mentioned to me that he needs some dental care and that not getting it might cause his rejection at the initial medical checkup. I am setting up an appointment with our local dentist to pursue this issue. So, my concern at this moment is how the Navy handles dental issues at this stage. Do we really need to worry about him being rejected because of some cavities? Will these needs be met during boot camp?
That is just the information I needed. Thank you so much! I've been reading about boot camp and can see he will be conquering his hypodermic phobia rather quickly-excellent! I can tell this is going to be a great resource for me. Thanks
Thanks for the welcome! My son was also aboard the Reagan, managed the hanger, he's an E-5. He just left that duty this summer to train as a DOD firefighter, still within the Navy. His new orders to Penasacola start next week. What was/is your son's duty on the Reagan? My son joined the Navy in 2007 and joined the Reagan in August. It was quite a privilege to see that ship and meet his fellow sailors.
I am also very proud of my son.
I found your site while looking for information to assist him with some trouble that's come his way. He is in trouble for fraternizing with a guy who is an instructor at the school. He graduated yesterday and had to check out of the barracks, as he wasn't leaving town until today. His friend invited him to stay at his place and because of a disturbance at this fellow's house, which my son assures me he was not involved in, the Senior Chief found out he was at this place. There were no civilian arrests or citations, but the fallout is that my son is in trouble for "fraternizing" with this fellow.
I was trying to find resources to assist my son. He had the highest score in his firefighting school, and I hate to see this affect his record.
Please keep your fingers crossed for him. I wish I had found this site some time ago, it's a great thing you've done for Navy families. I am an IT person, is there anything I can do to help?
Many thanks, Elmo. I received notice today that Joe has been assigned to Division 917 and is just finishing week 2. I will be a frequent visitor to this site.
Unfortunately my stay at navy dads will be short and i suspect a little different. Daughter joined Navy ROTC 9 months ago, she wanted to be a Navy Nurse as she is getting her degree in nursing. She has been asked to Drop on request. Great GPA, deans list with several accomplishments as squad leader indoc medical lead and Pres, of College ROTC. No real reason for DOR other than there is no slots for her class. Just not sure what to advise her in signing DOR, does she have too. What should she be concerned with?
Thanks so much for the warm invite and especially for this website.
My wife joined Navy Moms and see was always chatting with everyone and they helped her with the transition of high school senior to Navy SR., so I thought I would join Navy Dads and hopefully connect with dads who are going through the same thing I'm going through and also gain some insight into what to expect next.
This was a great idea for a website and you've done a great job. I commend you for it.
Thanks again for the invite and also on the website.
Elmo, I have put together a Power Point Presentation and saved it to a jump drive. It is to large a file to email. I will drop it in the mail today for your viewing. I am excited about your store and it's possibilities! Thanks again for your interest in my products. Call me anytime @ 205.310.0330 or 205.330.7750. Talk soon! Sid
Thank you sir, Joshua landed in Chicago a half hour ago and is raring to get started on this adventure. We are excited also and l will be checking in on regular basis. God bless, John.
Thanks for the nice welcome, E.G. I'm really glad to have found this website you created. It has a ton of information that my wife and I will need as my daughter goes up the Sea Cadet ranks, and applies to the Naval Academy and NROTC. And of course, it will also be a great resource for us once she's in the Navy, either in the enlisted or officer ranks. Thank you for creating this website ! Gary Zaetz, Cary, North Carolina.
Thank you for your warm welcome and for creating this valuable tool. My son, SR McClure, Sean M, is going into his 3rd week of boot camp. He is currently aboard Ship 2 (USS Reuben James) Division 926. At this time, we have not heard from him at all. I understand this is normal but, I'm not having much luck reassuring his mother. Again, thank you for your personal welcome and I look forward to sharing his progress in the near future.
Thank you for the welcome Elmo. This seems like a great site and I look forward to reading and educating myself about the Navy. Although I had a nephew serve in the Navy, this is all new to me. I appreciate the support.

Thanks for saying hello.
I'm not military, so the first thing I did was read OPSEC. My son enlisted in 2005 and has done a couple of deployments (Enterprise and Truman). I think I bragged within OPSEC guidelines.
