Thanks for the warm welcome, Tim!! I'll pass your thanks along to my son and hope that you will pass along my appreciation to your sailor. :)

Thanks, Tim.  I appreciate the kind words and advice.  "Cody" is actually my grandson;  I'm the son of a USNA grad/submariner from WWII.  It's a long blue line....

My daughter is just about to reach her two year mark. July 16th. We can't believe it. She is on the Bush, IT2. She made E5 last September, very proud as this was pretty much in record time. She got a lot of flack from shipmates that didn't think it was necessary to study. But as a college graduate she has the study thing down pat. She has a love hate relationship with the Navy. Some days she hates it and thinks most of the enlisted are idiots LOL. Her superiors have given her the OCS packet-they insisted on it- and she works on it when she "loves" the Navy. She has more friends than she ever imagined. That part she "loves" every single day. And the funniest thing- she finally told me two days ago she picked IT because it was air conditioned. HA!

Thanks Tim, I appreciate all of the input and experiences. Both my wife and I are grateful for the support.

Thanks for the kind welcome Tim. Our son is in his second week at BC and we are still looking for his mailing address. It did not come with the Kid in a Box. Do we have to exercise more caution? Or is there another way of acquiring it?

  • Chuck Kaper

    Tim,

Thanks for the welcome and all the tips on finding my way around this site.  I must say everyone has been so welcoming.  My daughter shipped 24 Jun to GLRTC.  Got her "Kid in a Box" a few days later and just got her form letter yesterday.  I'm blessed to have two children who are focused and motivated and doing well at their specific stations in life.  I'm more than proud of both of them as I'm sure we all are of all our kids but I have to admit when I hear myself tell someone "My daughter is in the US Navy" it does make my chest swell just a little bit more than usual.

    Thank You Tim,

Everyone here has been awesome. The saddest thing I've ever done is say Goodbye not knowing what tomorrow brings. I received his box of personal items and the form letter arrived Friday. Were now ready to send our first batch of letters and have a ton of questions about his training activities. I am a very prod father, and family.

Tim. Thank you very much for the information on navigating the website.  I started looking at the site about a month ago and was very impressed with all the info.  It has become addicting since I have 2 months off during the summer.  My time is much better spent here than on FB.  Hope to communicate again soon, and thanks again.

Thanks Tim, and thank you for the site. I look forward to the information it will provide, I just wish I had found it sooner. Getting information from a sailor is like finding hens teeth.

My daughter has been in since November, she is about to

up A school and get her first placement. We found out she would be going to the CVN 72 USS Abraham Lincoln. I found this site, while looking for info on the Abraham Lincoln, I look forward to having other dads to share information with. We are happy to have her enough we can visit and are lucky she is in dry dock for an extended period and we will know where she is. We have been spoiled having her nearby, at Great Lakes, for 10 months.

Thank you for the warm welcome!! I really appreciate it and so does my wife. We have picked up a lot from your site. Thank you again! I retired from the Navy over ten years ago so a LOT of things have changed from the time I was in! We received our sons form letter a couple days ago and his graduation is Jan 23 with Division 911. I look forward to spending more time on the site! Thank you guys!! If there is anything I can help with from Washington State let me know!

Thank you for your words of support and encouragement.  Navydads.com seems an informed support group that extends helping hands to newcomer parents like myself.  I plan to use the resources as I become familiar with.  Matt

Thank you Tim for the email. My son is currently deployed and last heard, was somewhere around Bahrain. I received a message from him the other day, asking if I would be interested in doing, what they call, a Tiger cruise. I sent him back a message letting him know it would be an honor. I don't get to talk to him much other than just on facebook once in awhile. My question is, we know he is to return to San Diego sometime around June the 17th of this year. From my understandings, I am to meet up with him in Hawaii a couple of days prior to the 17th. Other then that, I am really ignorant on the situation and what I need to prepare for this. My son Caleb is not one of the best to keep up with times and protocol., so any help would be greatly appreciated..Thank you sir.

  • Ricky E. Clark

Thanku tim. I will check the whole site out! Appreciate you all. God bless!

Thank you for the info about this site. My son is following a family tradition, started in the early 1600's. All of the males in my family have served this country. My Great Uncle James Barnum, served aboard an iron clad in the Civil War. That was the beginning of my families service in the Navy. My cousin AJ is still aboard the USS Arizona. My two older brothers and I served in the Navy as well. I was with the Brown Water Navy during Viet Nam. My two older brothers both became officers, after graduating from the academy. I lost my closest brother in 1968. Matt went to SEAL selection in March of 2014. He is currently attending OCS, and will be commissioned upon completion. My other sons chose to serve in the other 3 branches, but I don't hold that against them. ;) Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

  • Don L. Zapata

Thank you so much. My daughter waited a long time to part of something that was bigger than her . To serve her country and give back what so many of our family members gave so that she could be free. She has always been a high achiever in sports and academics. So it was this decision while sitting in her college class to give up her 2 year scholarship to be part of the US Navy. She said it was the most certain she had felt on any decision. From start to finish 4 weeks and she was on her way to living out her dream. Thank you so much!

Thanks Tim for the site navigation tips and the kind words. I intend to make good use moving forward. Christian is now 4th generation in our family who proudly serves and 2nd generation Navy, I served as a quarter master on the USS Williamm C. Lawe DD 763. Christian will be joined by his younger brother this July, needless to say how proud I am of both! We received a call from Christian last Saturday and he is doing well, his brother is going to benefit big time from his BC expierences. I look forward to making good use of NavyDads, too bad we didn't have this technology back in my day! Go Navy!!!

Thank you very much for your warm welcome and information about the site. My son was blessed with a very informative recruiter in Tallahassee, FL. so he is way ahead of my in what he knows but I will try to play catch up in case I can help him along the way and get information that he maybe has not yet.

    Thanks Tim.

    Tim,

Many thanks for your helpful information.  After looking through the site, I have one question - my son-in-law had several friends who received their wings in Pensacola last Friday - are there any videos from these ceremonies available on this site?

    thanks,

    John

  • PZP'sDAD

Thanks for the welcome.  We are on short time.  He leaves on July 7.  He has a final DEP meeting this week.  He actually looks really good and ready.  He had a buddy leave yesterday and he went to see him off.  I have been all over this site.  haven't joined any groups but been doing a lot of research.

Tim thank you for the welcome comment, my wife and I are having a very difficult time with this we have no experience with the military and we are a very very tight family of four. Got a heart wrenching first phone call from Jordan and it has been very hard to stop thinking about. He said he's not eating sleeping and his hair is not growing back, also injured his knee and is on crutches.

    Hi Tim,

Thanks so much for helping to run this website.  My son is in divison 818 and PIR is sent for 9/11.  What a cool date for PIR!  I'll be checking out this website in much more detail.  My wife is a member of the Navy Moms website and she has been getting a ton of information from there as well.

  • Chad Johnson

Thanks for all the info/help.  I have been researching what my son will be doing and just when I think I can't get any prouder of him, I do.

Thanks for the add & welcome. My daughter joined the Army in 2000 and left in 2002 on a med discharge, only to enlist in the Navy a couple years later. She made Chief in 2011 after being in only 7 years. While that is not a record, it is rapid and commendable. Currently stationed on the Michael Murphy, she started on the McFaul so she is used to being on a destroyer. At this moment I am puppy sitting her three dogs at her house on Oahu (it's a tough job, but someone has to do it) while she is in a 3 week training program state side. Sam (my kid) is the first one but not the last one of her family generation to be in the Navy. I have a nephew in Norfolk as well.

My history... having graduated an all boys Catholic School in 1976, only one member of my class joined the military. He went into the USMC like his father, his g'father, and all the males in his family throughout time. If you can recall, 1976 was a time of major upheaval in the military. The Viet Nam war had just ended, my age group does not have draft numbers, and Pres Ford started the all volunteer military. They were trying to get rid of their over abundance of personnel at that time. I went to college and afterwards became  a Deputy Sheriff in SW Florida, where I still live with my wife of 27 years. I am retired with 29 years of service and currently work as a driver for a private ambulance company. Cheers

Thanks for the welcome message.  This is all so overwhelming but I'm looking forward to discovering more.
