Jose,
I was where you are now, almost one month ago. My son Greg left for boot camp on August 30th. It was one of the most difficult things I have ever gone through and I was surprised at how hard it was for me, not so much for him. 3 weeks later, I can tell you without a doubt that my son made a great decision. He has already been able to call twice in his first three weeks. He has earned extra phone time by showing some leadership within his ship and division and is doing well. Three weeks in and he still says that boot camp "sucks" but that he is "all in" and is excited about what is happening. I am thrilled that he made the decision to serve his country and I know that he will spend the next 4 years getting more out of himself than he would if he had stayed home and went to college. I still miss him tremendously but as I talk to my friends who's kids left home for college, they miss their kids too. We don't get to talk to ours everyday, but we do know they made a choice to serve a higher calling. Hang in there. The day you say goodbye will be difficult and the next week you will feel lonely and lost, but then you will hear from him, and both of you will be so proud that your conversation will be one you never forget.
God bless you and your sailor and your family. I will pray for all of you. I am a fellow native Texan (transplanted to California) and we can all be proud of our sailors. NavyDads has been a great resource foe me as I research what my son is going through. Utube videos of boot camp have helped a great deal as well.

You'll get the box of clothes and the letter about the same time. That letter has the mailing info. so I'm starting to write letters. They'll start writing back in a couple of weeks. Don't worry, your son will do well, the Navy really works hard to make sure everyone gets through the training as a team!
