Hi Cris....Welcome to Navy Dads! You must be very proud of David as he attends OCS. There has been a whole group of parents recently who have Sons & Daughters going through the same journey. They have started groups for the Classes. Link up with them and share the experience. I wish David the best of luck!

Cris, best of luck to your son.
I received your question and will answer as best I can. Regarding their mail, they start receiving it right away. It does take a few days to get distributed but we starting writing on day 1. They will start to get their letters in the first or second week. Keep the letters light and up beat. Your son will need all the positive thoughts he can get. We gave a lot of family updates, sports talk, and even wrote from our pets. The first letter we received was written at the end of week one, after First Friday. They keep them very busy and they have a lot to study, don't expect many letters.
OCS is 12 weeks. They report on a Sunday and if you count forward 12 Friday's, that is graduation day. Example, our son reported on Jan 3 and graduated on March 25.
Are you sure about his class being 01-17 if he has already reported? I would have thought 01-17 is the first class to graduate in 2017.
Reach out with any questions. Remember, no news is good news. They don't get to make a phone call until after week 3, when they pass RLP.

Not to hog in on the discussion, but the Fiscal Year starts Oct 1- wouldn't the class number reset to the new fiscal year as it does it RTC?
