Rog, I texted my son today. He heard that last year at this time was the coldest Hell Week on record. We hope this year is a tad warmer. He said he starts shivering about 45 minutes into each swim. The water temp is about 74 degrees. I guess the class is "testing out" this week, which I believe means getting good enough scores on the 4-mile run, O course, swim and drown proofing to start Phase I. We're praying for this class.

I wondered about that "coldest on record" comment. It seems unlikely that the water temp is colder in September-October than in January. Maybe he meant the coldest Hell Week in October. Don't know. Regardless, I'm sure they'll all be shivering soon enough!

The water does get cold there, check this site for SD Weather. I used it when my GS went through a few years back. Looks like 9/10/12 at 0436 the water temp was 69.4 degrees. The page I have linked is a graph and at the bottom of page is a spreadsheet with the times and temps.
