    They're different.

The Navy had to do something after the USS Stark and the USS Greenville incidence which basically was the CTT faults.  Now the Slick 32 is totally awesome.

I wrote this for my website, it might help you understand the CTT rating and the difference between the Slick 32's.

    James,

Here is a little information to get you started.

We went to visit our son stationed at Marine Base Hawaii in 2010.  My in-laws traded condo weeks to get us a place to stay.  We bought food loally and made meals as you are planning.  My father in law rent a 7 passenger van at the airport.

Here is a link to aplace to stay that rents condos:  http://www.winstonswaikikicondos.com/  Be carful about renting , look and see if there is parking.  This place charges extra for parking. This still may be cheaper than one of the bigger hotels.

There are also Military places to stay.  You will need a military ID to check in.  The Hale Koa is a military resort in Honolulu on the beach.  There is a Navy Lodge near the Naval Station.https://www.navy-lodge.com/lodge_page.html?p_lodge_number=19

There is a lodge on the Marine Base and Cabins that can be rented.http://mccshawaii.com/lodge/  http://mccshawaii.com/cottages/

Have your sailor check with people in his command that have had family visit. Get on the internet and decied what you want to see while you are in Hawaii. Reserve flights and book lodeging as early as possible.  It can save you money.
