Everyone keeps saying that it gets easier once they move on to "A" school and are not phone restricted the way they are in boot camp. It has not for me, but then again we have not gotten either of the two calls we should have received by now. We will see him and the buddy he went into the same rating with on Christmas day though and since his PIR is 1/7, our stretch is about over any way. We will get the weekend of PIR, then he will go to California and it will be 7 months!
After starting BUDS if he leaves for any reason then he will go to see a detailer and see what is available in the Navy and will get reassigned. Sometimes the choices are limited and the full range of rates are not available. I have heard that many end up designated. Many rates are full and the pick are not always what he may want to do.
Sr, I'm glad you had a good trip to see Jr! Keep me posted how he's doing in preBUD/S. My youngest (Class 287) will complete his first week of BUD/S tomorrow (I had a short text from him on Tues -- he said everything was going well).
