Not a Navy Dad but a retired Chief Petty Officer. I just happened to stumble on to this site and thought I could provide some input on some of the discussion forums. I spent 20 years and 23 days as a Nuclear Operator (MM/ELT) in the Navy. My last duty station was as an instructor at Nuclear Power School from 2011-2014. Prior to that I served on 4 different submarines (2 Los Angeles Class and 2 Ohio Class) and also served as a Recruiter.
Thank you! He graduates this Friday and then he's off to A school. I will likely take you up on your offer the farther along he gets. Right now my only questions are how long is A school and when will they find out what rating they'll be; e.g. MM, EM, or ET? And from there where is C school and for how long?
Great information Scott. We got our "I'm a Sailor" call yesterday and he told me he's signed up for MM with EM as a fallback. We leave for GL in the morning. Again, thank you for the info!
Thanks for all of your help Scott. Just a quick update, Graduation was great and he's been in Charleston the last couple of weeks waiting to class up. He said they should have enough sailors by then to start A school. He's still in the Nuke program and ended up as an EM so he'll be in Charleston, at least for the next year, for A & C schools; he said Prototype school is in Ballston Spa NY following C school.
