My wife and I are going to graduation and need to know of a good hotel that we can you stay at. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Doesn't have to be fancy.

He did it!!!!!!!!!!!;
Hi Kevin, we will be attending the same graduation. Not knowing much about the area, we found rooms at the Marriott Courtyard in Waukegan.
I stayed at the Gateway Inn on the Navy Training center. This part of the base is East of where RTC is. It is just a few minutes from the entry gate and they serve a great Continental breakfast and it is fairly cheap. The Gateway is part of Navy Lodge and it is a little cheaper than the Lodge. If you call the Lodge they may direct you there for overflow. You have to get a security clearance to get on the base to be able to get in and have your sailors name to use the hotel. I liked it.
The Navy Lodge is off-base and the Gateway is on-base.
We also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and were happy with our choice
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Waukegan (611 Lakehurst Rd). Very convenient to RTC and a nice place for the money. Very accommodating staff. For PIR this is a good choice.
Candle Wood Suits is where we stayed 3-14-14 they will shuttle ya'll to and from grad. You don't have to drive in traffic, it gets very bad during grad. day, drivers know the back roads so you miss all the traffic . There are places to eat just around the block. this was one of the better hotels very clean and price was around 85.00 night and less than 10 min to the base. It is 1 bedroom and couch makes into a bed with full kitchen. Make sure ya'll go to Sarges meet and greet very informational.Good Luck to your SR Texas Sailor Dad..
LA QUINTA INN. LOOKS NICE AND GIVES A DISCOUNT FOR MILITARY FAMILY, 5 MIN. TO PIR, $85-100.00 PER NITE
Navy Lodge is as close as you'll get and quite reasonable but not very many amenities nearby. We stayed at Candlewood Suites last weekend. Nice rooms, good rates and very close to many amenities (spent a lot of time at Ambrosia's, a good sports bar / watering hole nearby). Wet the whistle before Meet & Greet and lunched there after PIR while our sailor and his wife got re-acquainted (and he could shower on his own for the first time in 2 mo.). No comp breakfast but breakfast items available at a nominal fee and avail. 24 hrs. so you can ship out early Fri. morning. Plan to go to Sarg's Meet and Greet Thurs. evening before if you can, great time and great information about PIR. Met a lot of other Navy families there. Candlewood is just around the corner from Sarg's @ Sundance Saloon too. Great thing Sarg Spadano does for our Navy families, check out the link on Navydads. Candlewood is about 10 min. from RTC.
If the NAVY Lodge is full, the Marriott is nice and they give you a discount rate for Navy parents and family,free breakfast (eggs,sausage,waffles,etc.),and its only about 10 mins. from the base.
