hi glen, thanks for adding me as a friend. yeah, this is all very new to us. Ian is our oldest at 21, first one to leave home. It's tough trying to imagine how he getting by in boot camp. His DEP was 7 months long and that gave us plenty of time to read and research, but now that it's a reality it's a different story. You feel such pride, sadness, worry and concern. His recruiter said he's get me his address this coming Tuesday, and off the letters go. We've got four here at the house ready to go. I wish you and your son the very best.

Yes Nick is assigned to the U.S.S. Lake Erie in Pearl Harbor Hi. He finished his second C-School and is now waiting for word on a third C-School he volunteered for. The third C-school is an elevator school which is taught at Great Lakes. I think he wants to see his girl friend. Gary T.

Glen, did your son make it home safely? How about the car issue? Did he buy a new or used one? My son Nick ended up buying a nice 2007 Charger from a dealer in Hawaii. It sure has made him more mobile and he is beginning to like the island more each day. Well best of luck to you and yours! Gary T.

Also I'm adding a quick picture of him and his girlfriend right after liberty call. A great time for sure.

Hi Glen. Yup my boy signed up to be a Gunners Mate. I'm currently in Waukegan now just dropped him off a few minutes ago. It was great to spend some time with him and hear all the memories he has created. He is not a Grad and Go but will be starting his A school Wednesday. The PIR ceremony was very cool. I'm a Army Veteran so all the traditions and ceremonies related to Navy I found very interesting. For instance here is a small tid bit that you may or may not know. The uniform design that our sailors wear is over 200 years old. There are 13 buttons on the front that are for the original 13 colonies.

Hi Glen, Molly is the AROC of her division, 936, however, I don't think she will be doing what your son did as she is in the choir and her division is the performing division. She told me they will not be marching into graduation with the rest of the divisions, I think they set up to perform before that. In any case we might get surprised as well as her if she is given that honor.

No word Glen. Starting week four of hold time. Nick as been busy doing odd jobs. He did participate in the Honor Flight program. About 33 sailors from the Cole were bused to Midway Airport to meet a returning flight of WW II vets who went to see the monument in Washington DC. He met many old timers with stories to tell. Had a great time and is looking forward to doing it again. Boredom is setting in. He does make it home 3 week-ends out of 4. Gary T.

Hi Glenn, spoke to Brett tonite about that very subject. He said Dan started 3 weeks ahead of him and the math is right. Brett started A school on May 26th. Brett said that his class has moved quickly and is only 1 mod behind Dan and has a target date to finish about the same time as Dan. They have already finished fluid power and start torpedoes this week. That's all I got this week, I will keep you updated as they seem to moving quickly now. Also seems as Brett and Dan have become close friends. Brett thinks very highly of him. Small world, huh?

Glen, sorry to hear about your son being sick. Bill has got me involved on Navy 4 Moms. The site coordinator is the head of the Enterprise. Nick has lived there since INDOC. Doesn't look like Nick will be moving anytime soon, at lease until he finishes A.T.T. school. Nick is in his 2nd week. Hopefully he will be done by 20/ 05/09. If Danny and Brett are still on hold for A school and Nicholas started way behind them. WOW he may be there for awhile. Here's hoping your son and Bill's son class up soon.

Glen - Here is the web address: http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/family/index.html
Copy and paste it in on your top tool bar and then look around the website. If this does not work search RTC Great lakes and it will be the first to pop up or should be. I hope this helps.

Welcome to NavyDads Glen! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric is almost two months into a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat just returned from her seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Glen this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Dan is doing!

Be sure to spend some time in the Bootcamp group- there are many questions and answers available to help you understand what your sailor is going through. And as PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailors PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul

Glen, Welcome Aboard!. I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud navy dads just like myself. Thank your son for his service for me and thanks again for joining. Sincerely, EG
