Chris, absolutely! The anticipation leading up to it and then the moment it went up will be an event indelibly etched into my memory! My son's division was the third of eleven to march in and we spotted him as he crossed the threshold. It was at that moment I could not hold back.... the "liquid pride" flowed! When it comes to my son, it was the second best event in my life....second only to witnessing his birth! Wow am I proud of him and love him like I didn't know I was capable!!
Diane, my prayers are likewise with your son that he stays healthy and runs into no more adversity. He will emerge a stronger sailor and even more determined to succeed!
"Elmo Moore Thank you very much for this site! It's so wonderful to be here. Almost all of my questions are answered here. Everyday I learned a lot. Gerry"
Larry, my son graduates 28 June as well. Based on the info pamphlet that we received with the form letter, we found rooms at the Waukegan Ramada. Now obviously we haven't stayed there yet but it was on the Navy's list. When we told them it was for PIR, we received a special rate of $74.00 per night. I looked it up online and it looks decent.
Thank you for the welcome wishes. Like Ernie's son my son is in the DEP program. Unlike Ernie's son he has received mixed information that is delaying his getting a NSW contract. Namely he had PRK surgery at the beginning of March, which his recruiter knew about but failed to inform him that he would have to wait six months before he could take his PST...and then wait some additional time to go to Great Lakes. One would think that this information would be clearly established. He has no restrictions from a medical point of view but until the six month passes he cannot even train with the mentor. I could understand with Lasik surgery but PRK is infinitely less invasive. Had we known this, we would have pushed for the PRK surgery last summer and been done with it. Heads up to other prospective candidates.
Thank you for creating this site. It is an absolutely wonderful experience to read about the different stories, get information, ask questions etc. The people are wonderful
Thanks to all for the warm welcome. My son has recently enlisted in the navy and he just signed his NSW contract yesterday. We are so pound of what he is doing and want to be able to support him the best way possible. He will ship off to boot camp October 1st and will be training in preparation for BUDS until then. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot for the info on hotels near RTC. I'll check them out and make a reservation soon. Let me know if you know anything to do with my sailor while I'm there. I'm sure we won't have very much time to spend together and it will go by fast. I booked my flight back for Sunday at 8 PM so I don;t know what I'm gonna do for an extra day there.
Thank you for the warm welcome, and especially for creating this great resource for new Navy parents. I'm already aware of the blessing it is and can be, and I'm looking forward to both receiving and giving as we progress through our son's career. Fair winds and following seas.
Thank you for the welcome Elmo. This seems like a great site and I look forward to reading and educating myself about the Navy. Although I had a nephew serve in the Navy, this is all new to me. I appreciate the support.
Thank you for your warm welcome and for creating this valuable tool. My son, SR McClure, Sean M, is going into his 3rd week of boot camp. He is currently aboard Ship 2 (USS Reuben James) Division 926. At this time, we have not heard from him at all. I understand this is normal but, I'm not having much luck reassuring his mother. Again, thank you for your personal welcome and I look forward to sharing his progress in the near future.
Thanks for the nice welcome, E.G. I'm really glad to have found this website you created. It has a ton of information that my wife and I will need as my daughter goes up the Sea Cadet ranks, and applies to the Naval Academy and NROTC. And of course, it will also be a great resource for us once she's in the Navy, either in the enlisted or officer ranks. Thank you for creating this website ! Gary Zaetz, Cary, North Carolina.
Thank you sir, Joshua landed in Chicago a half hour ago and is raring to get started on this adventure. We are excited also and l will be checking in on regular basis. God bless, John.
