Gil, thanks for the encouragement. I feel exactly as you did. The kid is my best friend and now he's gone, leaving a hole that can't be filled for Mom and I. I just have been praying for him and writing letters awaiting his address so I can send them. You would think I would be ok and understand. I went through the exact same place and submarine program as he is/will do. I think it makes it harder knowing what he'll face. Not sure. We're proud, but as I stated, we had a different plan for him and he threw us a curve ball. He was a district champion in the 100 fly in swimming. Just thought he was going to go to college. We're adapting as best we can. My biggest fear is that it will change his bright disposition into a cynical Navy man. I knew plenty of them. God bless your daughter and family.
Hi Gil, --Thanks. We live in Rye, NH which is a small New England seaside community. My wife and I walk the beach nightly during the summer months with our Golden Retreiver, Teddi. She took it with her IPhone. It was one of those warm colorful evenings you want to last forever. I am already looking at the pic longingly --we got six inches of snow last night!
Gil thanks for your time, Gracias Por tu tiempo! :-)

Good afternoon, Gill!
I live in PR and my son went to the Navy for almost 2 years now ( november).
He is an AZ, he likes his job and he is deployed.
I would like to live in Fl, have other son who lives in Orlando.

Thanks Gil. Most of these were taken while he was TDY to MA (master at arms) . For his first fourteen months on the ship he was TDY, yet expected to test as an IS for promotion. I was lost when he told me that. Never worked in your field, yet your promotion is nesed on it. As well as other qualifications. He got his surface warfare pin and was working on his air warfare pin when I spoke to him six months ago. I'm sure he has it by now.

Your words are so true...didn't realize how hard it would be to not talk to Mark! We are half way thru bootcamp and looking forward to a phone call. Had our hopes up last week Friday and it never came! Hoping to hear from him soon, but for now happy when the letters arrive. We are very proud of our son! Good luck to your children!
Good morning Gil. I wanted to say a most sincere thank you for the tip about the swearing in ceremony. When we asked the PO at the station, it was easy for the info . . . too bad they don't encourage it and even let the families of FS know about it. My wife, daughter and I are thankful for the opportunity to witness this. Robert's (Tanner) best friend, who is shipping out next Tuesday, was there also. Moving for him as a preview to his own journey next week. It was AWESOME.
I appreciate your information given especially like the free food at the motel. I will have to check this out but really, God bless you and your family and I will keep you posted how everything goes.
