Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

Updated (7 Sept 2013)!! here is the Microsoft Publisher template- Avery 5163 label:

We bought and shipped 6 cases of cookies this year. We've had some really positive feedback from the Troops!

Hey folks....it's Girl Scout cookie time.....buy a bunch and include in your care packages.....

We've headed up a Military Ministry and have mailed hundreds of boxes over the past 3 years. We've only 'lost' one box and have only had one box 'destroyed' over the years. Not a bad track record.

Shipping to deployed troops for 4 years I don't know of any packages getting lost

Not too often.....never had any of mine get lost for two deployments.  It can happen, after all, sometimes these packages end up on the other side of the world!

probably a dumb question lol....but is it better to send more then one box at a time to make sure one gets there? Do they get lost often?

This may be old news for some but I did not know about this up until recently when I was told by a friend. USPS offers FREE Military Care Package Mailing Kit!

Hit "0" if you get lost with their touch tone options! You want to reach their Packaging & Supplies representative. They'll take down your home address and email. You will also be given a customer number for the next time you place an order.

PLEASE NOTE: These supplies are "strictly" for use to send to an APO/FPO address...

Thanks USPS!

We have a care package ready to go.   It's just going to Pensacola as our son is in A school there, but we are gearing up for when he gets on board the USS Eisenhower.  For him, mini moon pies, twizzlers, and jelly bellys.  Nothing special in packaging.   Just leaving everything in original packaging.  I have also included a bunch of jerky I made and vacuume packed this weekend.   He will get some, plus I have included packs for 3 buddies of his choice.  That's the plan going forward.  Some for him plus some for a few others.

We have found that a good way to pack cookies is to pack them in a rubbermaid container surrounded by mini marshmallows. Keeps the cookies intact and they get an additional yummy. Works like a charm. Even with our sons favorite, homemade shortbread, which is very soft.

I sent my son one of those fans Amber recommended.  It was less that 9 bucks at Target.  I hope they work OK. y boy has a bottom rack, so we'll see.
