He is a good and gracious God with a lot more in store for Nick! Nick will always be a living testament to His mercy and power. Nothing but the best to him and the entire Vogt family!

from Nick's family. I had to split it into 2 post, it was to long.

It’s so hard to know where to begin with this post . . . what to say, how to say it, and whom to say it to. Nevertheless, we’ll try. This is basically a “farewell post” (from Steve and me) on the Nick Vogt Family Facebook page. It’s been nearly 17 months since this page was created. It was created by a friend so we could keep our friends, family and Nick’s acquaintances up to date on Nick’s condition. It has been a long and difficult journey since our son was blown up by an IED in Afghanistan, so critically wounded that they could not fly him out of Afghanistan for several days, the Army flying us to Germany (for fear he was not going to make it), the unbelievable amount of blood that he received, his coming out of unconsciousness after a week, flying on a C17 with him from Germany to the United States, the 30 plus surgeries, the battles with bacterium, funguses, and molds that would infect his body, the need for dialysis, emergency brain surgery for a blood clot, breathing on a ventilator and not being able to eat, drink or speak for four months. We are so thankful for the amazing medics and surgical teams that kept Nick alive in those precious minutes, hours and days after the accident; the comrades/classmates who sat by his bed and offered comfort, even though he was unconscious, so he would not be alone; the selfless military personnel that lined up in Kandahar to donate blood to a soldier they didn’t even know; the skilled and compassionate medical staff in Kandahar, Bagram and Landstuhl, Germany; the Aviation and MCAT team that flew us home in the C17. We are so very thankful to everyone at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for their work in getting Nick ready to live the rest of his life. We thank the surgical teams and nurses in ICU (there were many), the doctors, the wonderful nursing staff, the amazing therapists, the chaplains/priests/brothers; all the volunteers at this hospital. We thank the many charities which stepped up to help us: Fisher House Foundation, Hero Miles, Yellow Ribbon Fund, Travis Manion Foundation, Wounded Soldier Fund, Families Of The Wounded Fund, Veteran Airlift Command (VAC), and Comforting America’s Uniformed Services (CAUSE). We thank our friends from home that banded together to support us; ArcelorMittal–Shelby, the Village of Crestline, Shelby Knights of Columbus, the VFW and American Legions of Crestline, Galion, New Washington, Bucyrus, and Medina; the people that organized and participated in the Nick Vogt 5K and the many churches and civic groups that held support events. We thank everyone that contributed to the Nick Vogt Hope Fund. For sharing in this journey, we thank the friends who came to visit Nick as well as to visit us; those who sent cards, gifts, invitations to help in any way possible; the list goes on and on. There have been, and still are, hundreds of people involved in Nick’s care and survival. Yes, his survival. In addition to this, we will never forget the thousands of people (all over the world) who have prayed (and continue to pray) for Nick and our family.

Nick is living proof that miracles do happen, and God truly does hear the cries of His people. God is good and has answered another prayer. Within the next couple of days, Steve and I will pack up our personal belongings (here at Walter Reed) and officially move back home to Ohio. Nick still has a long road of recovery and rehab here at Walter Reed, but we are so happy to say that he seems ready to do it on his own now, and no longer needs our assistance. It will be difficult to leave, and I certainly can’t say we won’t worry about him, but it will also be one of the most joyful moments ever . . . knowing that he is moving on with his life, and that God has given him the strength and determination to do just that. Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts (everyone), and may God bless you as abundantly as He has blessed us. (Love, Steve, Sheila, Nick, Olivia & Luke, Loretta, Charlie and Lizzy Vogt)

Praise the Lord! Scored very well on the exam, passed the OC spray, and picked her orders!  God is so good!  Thank you for the prayers.
