No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Congrats on your daughter's efforts and results.  I'm sure you're looking forward to seeing her soon.

Barry Anderson-  I understand how you feel.  When our daughter called home to let us know she arrived, my wife answered the phone and was so excited to hear from her, she forgot about me.  It was very short call, seconds.  Yes, it was gut wrenching.

To all my fellow Navy people (Dads) my daughter called me yesterday. She is officially now a Sailor.  Hooyah!!  To the admins of this site, you knowledge is invaluable.  I thank you from the most inner part of my heart and soul for sharing your knowledge with me.  Even though my daughter missed her PIR I learned that because she was in a "Push" division that she didn't have as many opportunities to excel in the final testing before participating in Battle Stations.  But she did the same Friday as she would have PIR'd.  I am taking my chances and leaving this morning in hopes to connect with her at some point over the weekend.  Everything I have researched on the RTC site, the calls I have made, indicate that she will not have an official ceremony but-the people I have talked with have indicated that they are 95% certain that she will have liberty this weekend as her A school is in GL.  So me, being the Proud Navy Mom that I am, I am driving just 1400 miles 20 + or - hours in hopes to see her for even a couple hours wandering around the NEX store.  Positive thoughts to all of my Navy family and prayers to all of our loved ones who serve.

My son arrived at Boot Camp. I think he only spoke to his mom and dad only 10 sec.
