Navy Dads

Thought I would start a chat about this class, as the boy is currently in this group. Just a spot to swap stories and backgrounds of the men, families and adventures of this class. Please no names and try to stay away from discussing time lines of Phases or course completions, or detailed descriptions of training evolutions as trying to keep OPSEC in mind.

Grandpa, actually -- he's looking forward to Alaska. He's been in California for so long he says he misses Wisconsin winter (even the 15" of snow we got in Green Bay this week!). He has a buddy in a previous Class (#275, I think) who sent him lots of photos so he can't wait til get there.

Jerry, he will enjoy SQT except maybe the Alaska part. I had to delete my first post had the wrong name listed.
The next bell he'll see is a Christmas Bell here at home! We'll have him with us for 12 days (before he heads back to San Diego -- then to Alaska in early Jan). I think he'll get his fix on winter there!

Jerry, please tell your son "May you never see that bell, or Old Misery again!" for me.

HooYah SQT277
Getting excited, the boy comes home tomorrow! Six days to fatten him up and get him ready for the next phase of training.

I asked him about his bay swim and he said "Anybody that thinks the bay in SD is cold, hasn't swam in a lake in the mountains of Idaho."

Jerry M,

I'll pass that advice along.
Well the boy has returned to SD, today. It was a good visit, with some interesting stories of training thus far. Although not too many as he has become very tight lipped and humble. Nice to see the young boy becoming a mature young man, albeit with quiet confidence of the training he has gotten thus far. It was great to see him and was happy and sad to see him leave this morning, but someone has to stand watch in Coronado.
John, glad you had a good visit with your son. Time flys when your have fun and I am sure his visit went by very fast. They do get tight lipped the longer they are in. My GS would not say much a then all of a sudden he would tell us something and all I could say was "why did you tell me that". It would be a story of something they did and it would gross me out. They do grow into Men and in away it sad to see the kid leave but it is so nice to see the man come out.

Have a Good Holiday.
John, I thought all the Guys got to come home 12/18 to 01/04, Some earlier..
My son could have came home 4 days earlier but stayed to save up some liberty & was told they would be having at least 1 evolution per day, That only lasted 2 days.
I traveled 8hrs down & 10 back to pick up my son Just so we could talk on the road. He talked for about 3-4hrs & slept for the rest. I'm glad I took his best buddy with me He kept me company. we spent the day in SD with My Son while waiting to get his leave @ 16:00. Great to have him home. He spent the night with his old friends last night. No telling what kind of reunion that was.

John and Jim, Glad you both had some time with your sons! My son from SQT 277 arrived home yesterday afternoon. He heads back to San Diego on Dec 31, then on to Alaska for about 5 weeks! Special times for all of us - including his younger brother in NSW DEP (who hangs on every story as he anticipates beginning his own "SEAL Quest" this Aug). Here's to all our special young men - especially as we celebrate Christmas. And here's to a sucessful New Year - as they continue their training in 2010! Go SEALs!

Not sure, about how much time on leave/liberty thing...sounded like there where last minute adjustments and if I know the military proably some miscommuncation and misunderstandings. Either way my son was scheduled to standwacth on christmas so better to get back eary and avoid last minute holiday travel panic. Talking with him, he had mixed feelings, part wanted to stay longer, but the other part wanted to get back and not loose focus. As you can imagine between friends and family not much time was spent in the gym or pool while he was home.

Tell you young NSW Dep to keep his eye on the prize and your oldest that anything below -20 degrees is just damn cold. After having been in AK on assignment for the USAF, I can tell you it gets chilly up there in the winter.

Hope you and yours Have a great Holiday Season!
