Biography

 

Steven Jarger CTR SA is a graduate of Haddon Township High School in New Jersey. He enlisted in the Navy DEP program in the spring of 2009 and left for Great Lakes in February 2010.  Steve completed Battle Stations and was proudly capped a Sailor on his 21st birthday March 30, 2010. His PIR from Great Lakes was on April 2  His "A" school was in Pensacola at Corry Station, and completed "C" School on December 4.

 

Steve has orders to serve on the USS Mason DDG-87 ported in Norfolk Va. This is a very special assignment for Steve as it has connections to both of his grandfathers.  His paternal grandfather Jerome Jarger ET-2, was also a Tin Can Sailor, who did boot camp at Great Lakes in 1948 and served on the USS Dyess  DD-880.  His other grandfather, Paul Tine was a civilian mechanical engineer who worked on the Aegis project from its inception with RCA/Lockheed Martin until his retirement.  The Mason is an Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer equipped with the Aegis Radar Guided Missile System and sails with the Burke and the other Aegis Greyhounds of DESRON 2.

 

Steve and his lovely wife Julie, were married October 28.  When he is not on duty he enjoys listening to music, playing guitar, video games, watching movies and staying in touch with his family and friends via Facebook and texting.   Steve's hobbies include working on and driving his 1929 Ford Model A Roadster that belonged to his grandfather Paul, he also likes to dabble in fishing and plays some golf.  He is a talented painter and all around handyman.

Congratulations to the Sailor of the Week!

Update: Seaman Jarger has returned home from a 6 1/2 month deployment with the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist insignia.
