Navy Dads

(AM3) Aviation Structural Mechanic Eric Corona working in the Tire

and Wheel Shop aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71)

Biography

Eric Corona was born in Elko, Nevada. Eric followed his sister Kat (PIR Oct. ’05) into the Navy and graduated Bootcamp in April ’07. Following A-school at Oceana, Eric shipped to the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) where he worked in the Tire and Wheel Shop.  During the cruise, the Roosevelt became the first carrier in 41 years to port at Cape Town, South Africa. The final port call for the Roosevelt on it's return to the U.S. was in England so Eric truly got to see a variety of culture.  He reported that he truly enjoyed South Africa and would love to return there on vacation one day.

Since it's return to the U.S., the Roosevelt has been in RCOH or reactor complex overhaul, a 3-year process of refueling the reactor and a general overhaul of the entire ship. He has been detailed to LIFAC, or light industrial facility and has spent many hours in the paint booth painting doors and hatches.

Eric is a movie buff and spends much of his spare time watching movies from the more than 300 DVDs he has collected.  He also likes to fire up the smoker and makes a mean batch of pulled-pork and smoked turkey.  He is an avid mountain biker, though since being stationed in Virginia, he hasn’t had access to his favorite “kamikaze” single-track trails around the Lake Meade, Nevada area.  He also spends time tweaking more horsepower out of his beloved “Roxy”- his ’07 Trailblazer SS!
