Navy Dads

My son is a little over 2 weeks into boot camp, his graduation is 22 April.  Does anyone else here have a sailor graduating then?

I sure am proud of my son!  We got a letter from him today, I had to laugh when I read it, because everything he told me that was happening are things I told him about before he left, such as the RDC's yelling all the time, short on sleep, etc.  I replied to his letter a while ago, I told him that as soon as his division starts to "get it", the RDC's will yell a whole lot less.

Hello Harley.

My son graduates 4-22 as well.He is in Ship 03 Div 143.We just received letters from him today,he is actually liking it so far.The yelling he is starting to get use to.He was assigned as one of the PO's .He logs when recruits are coming and going throughout the division,so they aren't yelling at him as much.I was like you and told him everything to expect when there...yelling,cursing and the hurry up and wait games.I am very proud and excited  for the guys...Tell you son thank you for serving his country......

Frank, where are you going to be staying for PIR?  My wife & I have a room booked at the Marriot Residence Inn in Waukegan, which is only about 4 miles from Great Lakes.

My son stated in his letter that he was liking boot camp, he said adjusting was pretty easy for him.  He said it was kind of weird, part of boot camp sucks, but at the same time it doesn't.  I replied to him this evening, I told him I could totally relate.  I told him that years from now, he will look back on his boot camp experiences with fondness.  I know I do!

And our thanks to your son as well for serving his country!
Our daughter is graduating that day Ship 03 Div 146.  We told her the same thing before she left

Harley,

We are staying at the Quality Inn which is fairly close. They offer a shuttle service to the PIR.We are driving in from Colorado.I was reading that if you take a taxi or shuttle (if offered by hotel) it will cut down on your wait time to get into the gates. The taxis and shuttles have their own drop off area and avoid the long lines, which are due to car searches,so we may check into that route.I am just hoping that we have the full weekend with our grad,There is a "ship-N-Go" where a grad is there a few hours after graduating and then sent straight to A-school.I guess it all hinges on their schooling. My son is attending Sub school. His recruitor said there is no break for him after PIR....maybe.

@ Stephan.thanks to your daughter as well.

Our son Tyler is Ship 03 Div. 145 and his PIR is also on the 22nd. We are staying at my brothers in Glenview. About 30 minutes from the RTC.

My sailor had PIR in July. I spend a lot of time on Navy for Moms and have been on here a lot more over the last few days. If anyone has any questions I am happy to help. She is now finished with A school and C school and is An AO In VA Beach. My SIL/her hubby had PIR in Oct and is now an IT in VA Beach. I also make ribbons to wear to PIR to show your support for your sailor. They have the Sailors name on one side and DIV number on the other side. You can see pics on my facebook page "Unique Memory Makers" Let me know if anyone has any questions at all.
