Navy Dads

Hi all!  I'm a mom not a dad, but I was a single mom for many years...does that count?  Does anyone else out there have a child leaving for Great Lakes on the 19th?  If so I would love to hear from you.  The closer it gets the more emotional I become.  I am so proud of my son!!

Hi Cheryl, My son left yesterday July 19th as well.  He left from Portland, Maine (to Rick Simard, I think our boys traveled together).  I was ok yesterday but after the short phone call at 11:00pm last night, I lost it!  I know this is something that Charlie is prepared to do...serve his country with pride.  I didn't get much sleep last night, quietly weeping, but I'm sure it will get easier every day.  I'm hoping to get some support here talking to other parents.  I can't wait to see him at graduation sometime in Sept.

I know I'll be Ok and so will Carl.  Right now it seems as every little thing reminds me of him and makes the tears pour again.

Hey Cheryl, you will be fine...yes very hard but it gets better. Work and my garden makes the days go by. PIR for my son is August 19th....I can not wait. Yours will get there as well. Lots of support out there for all of us....

I took time off from work to spend time with my son Gage on Monday and Tuesday before he left for RTC on the 19th, but we were all suprised when he was told to check in to the hotel on Monday. We dropped him off and within 10 minutes he was texting his mother, two siblings, and myself, glad he had that connection for his last night for a while in Maine. I was so glad that the recruiting office sent a group of recruits together, my son was intitially shipping out by himself, and I am grateful for this forum for us parents to keep in touch and share our thoughts.

I am very interested in keeping in contact with parents who may be attending PIR on or about September 19. Once I find out my son's division and ship I will let everyone know.  I am also interested in talking with parents or knowing of recruits that are in the Seabees. My son will be going to A school in Port Hueneme to become a CM (construction mechanic).

Hang in there everyone, together we will get through this.

Couldn't believe it.. got the boy in a box already...it' s only been 3 days!No note or anything which was la little disappointing.  But just having the clothes, my husband is making fun of me for smelling them..lol

I got the form letter today. My son is Ship 7 Div 304. He seems to be doing really well.  Said he was made R-POC. He says not to send food...Is there anything you can send besides letters?

Hang in there Cheryl you will be fine. My daughter left for rtc the 19th also. She left on my birthday and she will have her 18 birthday 4 weeks into basic. I have 2 sons serving now but its still like my 1st time.No better feeling than tears of joy and pride.
