In about two hours, I'll be waking up my son, Cole, and driving him over to the recruiting office. He's swearing in this morning and then off to GL.

Ward, I remember that day like it was yesterday. The recruiter picked up my son and I will never forget him walking to the car, away from us, not wanting to loook back because he knew what he would see. Almost two years later we continue to love and support him, so proud of the decisions he is making and the things he is accomplishing. Nothing but the best to you and yours.
We have a little over a week before that day. good luck to you and thank Cole for his service to his country. i have very mixed feeling. My son is so ready and i happy for him, but i want him here with our family. I thank God for every day he is here now.
good luck and God bless you and yours
Chuck
It is just the first step on a journey to one of the proudest moments of your life....:)
...Been there and done that, brother! It's a very emotional 2 months ahead. Some of the guys refer to it as the "rollercoaster". Write him as often as you can...it's good for him and therapy for you...LOL! You will get through this...We're all here when you need us....:)
My son Ty also left on the 9th to GL, I find myself quite often wondering what and how is he doing.
Check This Link and you can watch a series of video that follow recruits through bootcamp so you can see what they are doing
I'm a bit curious as to how we'll get my son's mailing address. People have posted about starting to write letters daily, beginning now. However, I don't know his address.
There are some posts on this site about possibly getting the addy from the recruiter. Is that how it works, or will his address be included in his 'sailor in a box' in the mail in a few days?
Thanks for the videos, Paul.
Address should be on the form letter you'll get about the time you get the box......you can try your recruiter as well, though sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't
I received the sailor in a box last week, have not yet received the form letter.... hopefully today.
From my experience for us it took about a week apart from when we received my son's "Civilian Box" and the "Form Letter". I gather USPS delivery time also played a factor depending on how far you are from RTC.
Thanks Gary, I live about 40 mins from RTC. This has been the longest week of my life, lol. Now know what my parents went through when I was at bootcamp.
