Navy Dads

Hi guys! I got the form letter from my son Colton with a graduation date of December 29th which is a Thursday. No other communication from him since regarding what his schedule is. On the website it says that if they don't ship to A school right after graduation and they are there through the weekend, they may have liberty on Sat and Sun during the day. ( his job is Submarine Computer Electronics ) 2 "old salts" told me that they got a week to come home after graduation. Others say they shipped out right away the next day.

Not sure when to book my return flight from Chicago. Sure don't wanna miss 2 days liberty if he is around. ( and don't wanna hang around if he can come home )

Any ideas what the typical scenario is now?

Thanks so much!

Mark this was posted by Paul on the PIR 12-29-2011 Group. It is a message reguarding the options after PIR.

Hope this helps.

your situation is unique. Sailorette shipped to A school on Veterans Day, a Friday. She had to be at the airport at 6am even though her flight was at 4pm. I believe family could hang out in the airport if they wanted. I believe A school is closed between Xmas and New years.

I have learned with the military, they promise little free time. and any free time they do get is a privlege and can be taken away. Outside graduation hall two girls got in an argument PIR morning. Both did not go to the ceremony, and both lost their liberty. Another kid got held back for getting injured a week before grad. Passing all your test is another factor.

The majority make it through with out hang up. That being said anything can happen. Make plans you can live with and hopefully everything will work out. What I have learned dont go expecting any extra liberty unless its cconfirmed.

when you read my post for the 29 Dec PIR keep in mind that it ONLY applies to that PIR.....because of the New Year holiday, there are options that are not available at any other PIR

Thanks all!

I sure appreciate having some feedback from people more educated than myself in all things Navy!
