Navy Dads

The subject of Challenge Coins comes up every once in a while....I am in the process of building a holder for son Eric's Challenge Coins and I wanted a couple more to fill out his collection and give some balance to the display.  I've known about Northwest Territorial Mint for a long time, but this is the first time I've ordered from them.....I got three...one for Naval Base Norfolk, one for his rate (AM) and one for Kaneohe Bay.  Had the AM coin engraved with his name....total cost for all three with shipping- $42 and about 5 days wait...pretty reasonable.  Check them out at (this link to their Navy stuff): https://store.nwtmint.com/Navy/

Great idea, Sir! I think I may build a collection myself to follow my daughter's career....will be a nice keepsake!

check out this display from The Patriot Woodworker.......

Now that's pretty clever! :)

couple more ideas....

...Love the display case.....don't anticipate living long enough to fill it though!....LOL!

I saw the 100 yr RTC coin pictured a few days ago....any idea if and where that might be available? I've searched but have not had much luck....

working on a new display....raw material here...spalted maple with a Laos rosewood inlay (first time I've tried the inlay thing....)

I now have 4 Coins, will photo them this weekend and post. I have:

US Navy Leap Frogs

SEALs

Petty Office 2nd Class

Little Creek NAB

Hope everyone has a Great Weekend.

the general concept here......this is just a prototype out of red oak for ideas and fits......

The inlay is really nice....but what if a coin is of a different Diameter...or are you doing it as you go?

making this one for specific coins I have.....typical size is 1 3/4" though I do have a 1 1/2" coin and a 2" coin and a triangular one as well....Eric was just telling me the new HSL-37 coins are shaped like a surf board......that would be fun to try to chisel out.....

If I make a generic holder I'd make one like the ones above, only using a slot cutter to make individual recesses the coins would stand in.....

   Well....I've bought my first 2 coins...let the collection begin....LOL!
