I didn't see a thread for Navy OCS class 12-12, so I thought I'd start one in the hopes of connecting with other families/friends of Canidates in this same class. My name is Ellen and our eldest son Joe arrived in Newport to report on March 25, 2012. Feel free to sign up and respond so we can introduce ourselves and share questions, comments, or concerns.

Glad you launched this "chat".
Our son, Joseph, just wrote that he is having fun, gave us some details.
Confused about his graduation date. He indicated it will be July 15. We thought that this was a
12-week program ending about June 16.
Anyone know the actual graduation date?
Hi Bill nice to meet you. We've been informed the grad date for class 12-12 will be 6/15. Graduation is normally always on Friday morning 8:30am with a meet and greet the night before at 5:30 pm.

Is class 12-12 the class that started March 25th?
Is there a limit to the number of folks that may be invited to graduation and/or the meet and greet the evening before?
Yes. Class 12-12 is the one that started Sunday March 25th. Class 09-12 graduates this coming Friday and this Sunday class 13-12 will start.

To my knowledge there isn't. We'll have 7 attending

This is all very helpful.
To whom do we indicate our intentions as to how many folks we will have attend?
Bruce
Bruce, use the following link to contact the OCS program directly. They answer all questions within about 24 hours. That is how we confirmed the grad date of June 15th. I'm sure they'll confirm the max amount of graduation attendees allowed per canidate too. When you get the answer please post it so we all know. Sincerely, Ellen

Moms and Dads,
I hate to jump in your conversation but I need your help. This is an area where NavyDads has been lacking and I would like to change that for the future. We do not have near the information our site needs when it comes to OCS. I would like to build the OCS Group like our Boot Camp Group. Packed with pages filled with OCS info for new OCS parents. So what do they need to know? What page of information is needed? If you guys private message me the things parents need to know, I'll be glad to build the pages and add them to the group.
Thanks,
Good idea skipper. I'll email you some items I think parents/friends are looking for when it comes to improving their understanding of OCS.

Thanks,
I've found the following 39 page OCS manual very insightful and the best information to date. It breaks down the mental/physical challenges and inspections by week/day. The maunual is written for canidates, but it gives family/friends an informative view of exactly what is expected of the canidate by phase and week.
Coupled with the youtube Hi Mom videos, you can really get a perspective of what the canidates are going through to earn the Ensign bar.

Great minds think alike!
