Navy Dads

Does anyone know how long Airman Pact schooling is after boot camp in Pensacola, Florida? And where will my son go from there?

Thanks,

Thanks Gary

here is some basic info on the PACT program

Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT)

Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT) is a program designed for enlisted Sailors to enter into an Apprenticeship program that provides apprentice-level formal training and on the job training that leads to a permanent rate/career field within two years. It is a great program for those individuals who are unsure what specific career field interests them at their initial time of enlistment. Every rating belongs to one of the three areas in the PACT Program and has credentials related to them. Here are the PACT tracks:

Additional Information

The Professional Apprenticeship Career Tracks (PACT) program enlists Sailors into a monitored general apprenticeship program. This program provides apprentice-level formal training and on-the-job training that leads to a viable career field within two years on board their first Permanent Duty Station. It is a great program for people who are unsure what specific career field interests them. PACT provides an opportunity to transition from civilian life to Navy life and to learn about the different jobs available without having to make a specific decision at the time of enlistment.

Starting active duty shows a commitment to the Navy, but trying to choose "the ideal job" in the beginning can be difficult. Some choose to follow in the footsteps of someone they know that did that job years ago while others try and decide based on recruiting information and the Internet. Another excellent way to select the "ideal job" is through the PACT program which has three apprenticeship tracks - Aviation (A-PACT), Engineering (E-PACT) and Surface (S-PACT).

All Navy Recruits starting active duty in or reclassified into the PACT Program will attend an initial apprenticeship course for their specific track and receive follow on assignment to a First Duty Station into a vacant apprentice level job. When initially reporting to the First Duty Station, a rating or specific job eligibility screening will be conducted and an individual career progression plan will be developed and documented in the Navy’s Career Information Management System (CIMS).

The Navy’s PACT Program guarantees the following:

  • Initial Four Year Active Obligation
  • Initial Apprentice Skill Training
  • Career Development Plan with Viable Career Opportunity

Every effort will be made for PACT Sailors to enter a Navy job or rating field through the Navy-Wide Advancement Examination process. PACT Sailors which are not designated into a specific rating or job within 24 months onboard the First Duty Station will be offered the opportunity to attend a Navy “A” technical school provided they maintained PACT Program and “A” technical school eligibility.

PACT guaranteed Sailors must maintain the eligibility requirements:

  • Maintain job eligibility
  • Have no non-judicial punishment with 12 months of attending “A” school
  • Have passed the most recent physical readiness test and be within body composition standards
  • Have no marks on performance evaluations below 3.0
  • Maintain World-Wide assignment eligibility
  • Meet service time obligation after “A” technical school for a follow on job assignment.

Entry into the A-PACT program requires the following:

  • Applicants enlisting in the Airman (A-PACT) apprenticeship must have normal color perception, normal depth perception, and vision correctable to 20/20.

Entry into the E-PACT programs require the following:

  • Applicants enlisting in the Fireman (E-PACT) apprenticeship must have normal color perception.

The PACT Program provides enlistees in the PACT Program guaranteed assignment to one of six homeports upon successful completion of Recruit and Apprenticeship Training. The homeports are geographical area guarantees rather than specific locations and are subject to availability.

PACT homeport choices are:

  • Norfolk
  • San Diego
  • Jacksonville/Mayport
  • Pacific Northwest
  • Hawaii (Sailors with pre-service moral waivers (drug, alcohol, or criminal) are disqualified from overseas assignment for their first duty station).
  • Japan (Sailors with pre-service moral waivers (drug, alcohol, or criminal) are disqualified from overseas assignment for their first duty station).
