This Discussion is intended as a place where parents and other loved ones who have SRs with a PIR of 30 November to gather and meet-and-greet and talk about this adventure. Of course, I suppose anyone is welcome.
If anyone knows of others on facebook and navyformoms.com, please direct them this way, too.
Hopefully, this will be a place where we can share stories about phonecalls and letters from our SRs.
And I look forward, already, to meeting all of y'all at PIR.
Sincerely,
Scott

Stephen,
I wish I can give you some kind of idea or share an experience with a Meet-N-Greet. Unfortunately during our trip to my son's PIR we embarked on a little adventure I called "let's play tourist" which was not the smartest thing to do given we only had 2 short nights of stay. I don't exactly know how this happened it must have been severe jet lag. So from O'Hare we just followed public transportation signs. We ended up taking the Red Train then Blue Train and to be honest I don't even remember how many trains and the colors in detail. We got off in the Chicago loop area and enjoyed a little bit of sight seeing and ate a real late lunch I'd call this dunch. I figured heck we're in downtown now should be easy to catch a cab. After finding out it would cost over a hundred bucks we quickly scrapped that idea and walked some more and then some more and asked passers by along the way until we got to the Metra train station. After getting lost inside the train terminal, walking track lengths several times back and forth to catch the right train we finally got on board. We cabbed it from the Waukegan station to our hotel.
To make my long story short I'd say it would all depend on when you're arriving date/time and the distance between your hotel/motel to the Meet-N-Greets. Distance wise though should not be an issue.
The popular one I hear talked about the most is Sarge's. We planned on attending Sarge's but by the time we got to our hotel it was too late and we were exhausted...
I know you'll have a good positive experience whichever one you choose to attend. Just meeting and sharing with other Navy parents is priceless...
take care,
Gary
That first week the SR's are SO sleep deprived! It takes about 2-3 weeks when they feel like wrtiting. My first phone call came after 3 weeks.

I actually posted your question RTC.....hopefully they'll answer early next week. So lets do some math:
figure there are about 50 PIRs/year with about 750 sailors on average: that's about 37,500 sailors/year. If you estimate 80 sailors/division that's about 470 divisions a year or about 9 divisions roughly a week moving through RTC. Since bootcamp is typically 8 weeks long you've got about 72 divisions somewhere in process at any one time.
Wow, that is really amazing, thanks for sharing all the information on Divisions / Ships!
My Son Cesar is in Div. 903 Ship 02
