Navy Dads

My son graduates A School in San Antonio in March.  My question is, do they have a ceremony or anything for graduating from A school and can parents attend if they do?

Thank you

A new navy dad

Dennis,

Yes according to my son who is also graduating March 1st, and advised that they do have a simple ceremony and unlike PIR this is an open graduation with no limit to the number of family members to attend.

How does your son like the training so far?

Lance

Dennis,  My son graduated last December, there was no formal graduation to attend.  You are better suited to attend his graduation a RTC if he has not graduated yet.  Tell him to study hard, listen to his instructors.  My son was set to graduate RTC is Spec Ops, the day before graduation that was changed and he had to pick a new "A" school.  He choose MA, graduated 4th out of 54 and had his choice of assingments to pick from.  The higher he finishes the better chance he can go where he wants.  My son is in Okinawa, and loving it. Good luck, hope this helped.

Thank you Lance... Well he just arrived at A school on the 19th of Jan.  and we have not heard from him since.  His wife has...lol...  He loves it.  I am a LEO in the civilian world..

Thanks Jeff... I will forward him that information as soon as I get to visit with him...

Dennis,  You should hear from him anytime now.  After about a week or so he will have the address you can send his electronics to him, phone and computer.  My son had his 20th birthday during "A" school we were able to send a care package to him.  I recommend you get the tracking with the USPS, cheap insurance ($.75) to make sure the package arrives, typically takes 2 - 3 days from the west coast to Texas.

There is a ceremony where the new MA's get their certificates of completion and their Security Badges. It is not the pomp and circumstance of PIR....but nice nonetheless! Guests are welcomed...

Yep.. his wife sent him is computer and cell phone and he should have it this week.  Tom,,, thanks..  I was unable to attend PIR but his mother was there and I was going to attend whatever ceremony he had for graduating A school...

Dennis, I'm sure he will do well with the training, won't be long before he finds that the CS they use is much more more potent than our pepper spray.

I was LEO here in Florida for just over 10-years and my Dad retired LEO from a Florida agency also, guess it is in the blood with our family. My oldest son went USMC / PRP -( security forces) out now and decided after going on a few rides the LEO here in Florida wasn't going to be a good fit, (another story), he does have several friends that went with LAPD, but he wanted to get back to Florida after Camp Pen.

Thanks,

Lance

My son is in San Antonio for MA training.  He started in Mid-january, but got injured the first week, so his training is on hold for at least 3 weeks while his wrist heals.  So we don't have a graduation date for him yet. He asked if we could come to his graduation and have either his mother or me pin his graduation badge on him.  It's going to be expensive coming from New York, but we will do it.  I know the ceremony is not elaborate like his graduation from bootcamp, but we want to show him how proud we are of him.  He is a little depressed and home sick because he got hurt just as things got going.  It is hard for him to watch all of the other guys go through the training while he has nothing to do.

...Sorry to hear that Dave....got to be tough on the kid! I'm sure that it will mean a great deal to him to see his Mom & Dad there to pin him. Best of luck and a speedy recovery.....

Leo,

My son Jorgen also graduates on 03/01/13 and after his leave home off to Bahrain for his first duty station.

Dennis, my son graduates in two days from MA school in SA.  He said they will have a small quick ceremony. Only one person is having their parents attend. I believe if your son wants you can pin his shield on at graduation.   So the answer to both of your questions is yes.  Good luck.  Mike
