True, it sucks to be removed from Boot Camp and on an individual basis, I wouldn't have wanted my son to go through it, but, do you realize how many recruits pass through there? Do you also realize that not everyone is going to make it?
The problem with the world may be, too many lawyers, not enough good sailors.

Yes, I would not leave for a medical reason unless it is properly documented, especially if it happened in boot camp. It is like a workplace accident and there could be future issues and costs. Even a Navy lawyer can help, they are at your service. And if you want to fight you should be able to.

Troy Baker said:Sorry to hear this! If he hurt it in boot camp and it wasn't pre-exisiting, I would have him talk with a lawyer before he signs anything as this could cause him problems in the future. I know they can easily separate for any reason the first 2 years, but it he was hurt might be worth fighting for.
David, again, it may suck that your son had to go through this. Perhaps you can talk to a recruiter about trying again in the future, however, you can't sue the Navy because your son didn't make it. What's next? If you don't make it through Buds, they should be willing to give you more personal attention?
I'm not really sure what you expect them to do? Have a special group for those who get hurt, but may do well later? Keep pushing them back to create a bottleneck of SR's in the future? Create a new rating for rehabbing SR's? As you pointed out, the Military is going through budget cuts. However, you want to spend extra funds on recruits who may or may not heal properly and be productive in the future. What if your son's knee doesn't heal properly? How long should they keep him at RTC before releasing him? Won't you be even more angry if he sits at Ship 5 for six weeks, then they send him home?
Are you sure you're considering the needs of the Navy or just your son's needs? I'm sorry if you are hugely offended.
Well then David, I don't know what we're arguing about?
My first response wasn't even towards you, it was towards the person suggesting you get a lawyer and look for ways to fight this.
Once more, I understand your frustration. A friend of mine's son was also separated for earaches, and when he came home, the local doctor found nothing.
My original point was, the Navy has so many recruits coming through, they don't really have time to deal with each case on a personal level, but move on with those not having problems. I've seen and heard of plenty of events where the military use questionable means in dealing with an issue. I just don't think a lawyer is necessarily the answer.
Actually, the Navy will provide free legal advice if needed.
I think the point of the lawyer suggestion was to cover future medical expenses as it happened at RTC. Is the injury then covered by the Navy or a personal expense? At least that was my understanding...
