From Boot Camp to "A" School

Could anyone please tell me if a notebook, laptop, or smartphone  would be helpful for a sailor at A school? I mean helpful for school not just comunicating to outside world. Thanks in advance. Scott

Scott, computers are provided for use in school. There are many jobs that are classified and the learning material can not leave the school house. Some "A" schools will not even allow personal devices into the class room. So in answer to your question, no.

Thank you for all you do for the families of our SR's. I had no doubts that my son would do well at RTC but I would have had a very difficult time had I not found Navy Dads.   

My son's PIR is tomorrow 27 Nov. 2013 and he is supposed to be heading to Pensacola for A school (AO). I'm assuming that he will fly out Thanksgiving day or the next. We are not able to attend his PIR and this will be our first Thanksgiving apart.  

Can anyone speculate on when he will be allowed liberty to come home for a visit? Any chance for the Christmas holiday? I even wonder if he will be able to phone us tomorrow after the conclusion of the PIR.

The inability to freely communicate has been the most difficult part for me. I do understand that there will be many times in the future where deployments and security will prevent us from talking, it's just something I need to get adjusted for.

my son is entering boot camp on Oct 1, does anyone know if they go right to "ATT/A school or if the base closes down for holidays. he will probably have PIR around 1st week in December. Will they keep them on base or let them go home? Im actually hoping they have to stay so he keeps focused
