Navy Dads

I originally posted this on the "navy discharge" page but I figured I would get more feedback on this one.

Well I just got the letter from my daughter that she got ASOM'd because she failed her final PFA run by a few seconds. She sprained her ankle early in training and was on light duty for about a week. Apparently she was being the trooper I told her to be and she sucked it up. But she initially had her PFA on Monday and someone in her brother division called a training time out and everything stopped. she told me she had 1 more lap to go and she would have finished, but because of the TTO being called she had to repeat the run the next day. I assume running for 2 straight days was just too much for her ankle to take. She is CRUSHED!!! to say the least. she watched her division leave to do Battle Stations without her and they came back to the ship with their "NAVY" ballcaps on and she was destroyed. She heard them say " last sailor sound off", "last sailor aye". notice I said Sailor and NOT recruit. Now she wants to be separated from the NAVY, she lost all motivation and forgot reasons why she joined in the first place. I just sent her 2 letters telling her I will support whatever descion she makes, but I feel leaving without finishing will be a huge regret that she will live with for the rest of her life. I told her to suck it up and dig deep, deeper and harder then she has ever done before and finish the job she came to do. I hope I gave her the right advise.

Steve....She must be crushed. Sometimes failure is part of the journey. I agree with your advice to her. She needs to remember why she joined in the first place. She will have a lot of support to get her to the top of the hill. While she is being pushed back a couple of weeks, she is literally only "seconds" from graduating and beginning her Navy career. Have her concentrate on that! Let her know that her Navy family is cheering her on....She can do this! I wish her luck and success....

Thank you Tom. I haven't actually spoken to her over the phone, she called my "ex". The letter I got last night was 4 days old, so I am not really sure how her spirit is right now. I just hope she get my letter before she asks for separation. And that must be at least a 3 week long process.

Just a thought...post her address here and maybe we can get her some letters of encouragement so that she knows that she is not alone! The parents on this site are pretty special people....

That's terrible Steve. I can only imagine that a setback like that would stir up emotions that could cause someone to want to separate. I hope she hangs in there. I'll be praying for her & my wife & I would love to write her a letter as Tom suggested.
