Well, the time has come. Last weekend before my son ships out. He heads to BC on 9, September, 2014. Very proud of him, but also sad since my best friend for the last 18 years is leaving me. But he's wanted this almost his entire life and I know he'll be a very successful member of the U.S. Navy!
Any others with children heading to BC next week, correspond over the next few months and we'll work through this together! Already planning my trip to GL to see the graduation! Can't wait!

Sounds good - thanks! I'm sure mine will burn a path to our mailbox until the letter comes too! :-) Unfortunately, right now, I'm working 13 hours per day, so I'm not usually home to share in that excitement. And usually by the time I do get there, I'm too dang tired. LOL Good side of that is, I'm too busy to think about it a lot, so I'm taking better than mom seems to be - so far...... :-)
Be glad to get that letter though!!!!! Hope it's Oct. 31, but if not, it should be Nov. 7, which is also good since that's his little sister's birthday!!!
Hi all. Son shipped on 9/9 and we got the form letter also. Ship 13 Div 351 and scheduled to graduate on 10/31. I missed the FED Ex man today who left a slip to sign. I was not aware my "kid in a box" required a signature. Just an fyi if yours has not come yet. Good luck to all the SRs!
No letter yet, but then the mail takes different times to process. Hoping to get confirmation today when the mail arrives that the 31st is the day so I can start looking at airfare and the such. Not sure we'll go into Chicago that night with her on liberty as Chicago is nuts and on Halloween?
Is it true that most recruit leave the day after graduation? My son will be going to mississippi after boot camp. From the form letter it states that they usually leave the next day for A school unless they will be doing school there at GL.
yes....they typically get to spend hours at the airport waiting for their flight the day after PIR....you can check in at the ticket counter with them and get a security pass that allows you to wait at the gate with them.
the exception are those staying in Great Lakes for A-school.....they get the weekend tho need to be back at the base each night
you must remain within 50 miles of the base after PIR....and beware that if the have A-school somewhere other than Great Lakes they will fly out the next day and need to take RTC transportation to the airport....and that happens VERY early in the morning
Thanks for the info. Very helpful! Now we can finish our planning! Can't wait!
We luck out there.. Our daughter is going to San Antonio for a year... we live in Austin.. that is nice!
Finally got my son's form letter last night. Ship 14 Div 353, PIR 7 November. Was kinda hoping he'd be on the 31 Oct PIR, but 7 Nov is good too - it will actually be a little more special since that's his little sister's birthday! Can't wait!
Mom is happy! And Dad is too. This morning, she got her 1st phone call from Trey since he arrived RTC. He is EXTREMELY happy and is doing super! Now, maybe mom (and dad) will get a good night's sleep for a change. LOL
Thank you for the heads up Harvey. We received the 15 min call today. What a joy and it was emotional for his mom. He love it and home sick. Over all he is great and loving life as a sailor! We are very proud of him!
