900 division include band, choir, flags, etc.... Even ushers. Not only do they learn to be sailors, but extra time learning other performance duties as well. Be proud pop!

Hi Robert - the 900 divisions are performance divisions. My son was in a 900 division when he went through. The selection, from what I remember was a little random but mainly had to do with recruits that had some background. My son was chosen because he was in band briefly at one point in Middle school and high school. He ended up as a "side boy" at his PIR. It's kind of a big deal. (even though my son will tell you otherwise) We got lucky enough to even see him ahead of his PIR since his division didn't have to assemble prior to marching in.

Hi Robert,
My son recently graduated from boot camp and was in 900 division. He's never been a performer so he was part of the division that he called "administrative", the job was to provide non-performing various tasks in support of the PIR event. On the day of the event my son was assigned as a Rail Guard. He was the first Sailor the guests saw when they entered the hall. He fielded lots of questions, mostly "Where's the bathroom?" Or "Where should I sit to see Division xxx?" The good news is that it is a big deal to be selected for 900 because they provide good PR for the Navy. The bad news is that non-performing members of 900 don't get to show off because they are not passing in review along with the rest of their shipmates. Bottom line: your Sailor is distinguishing himself among the members of his graduating class.

Thank you Tom my son was never a performer also so this is pretty cool info. Thank you for your time!
