Navy Dads

Greetings ! Can anyone help me understand how the "radioman" rating is now part of Electronics and Electronic Warfare?

My son signed up in the Navy for Electronics / Computer Field, and I was hoping this was not some dumbed-down version they are sticking him in.

Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

Cordially, John

The "Radioman" rating was merged with "Data Processing Technician" several years ago, and is now called "Information Systems Technician".

Information Systems Technicians design, install, operate, and maintain state-of-the-art informations systems. This technology includes local and wide area networks, mainframe, mini and microcomputer systems and associated peripheral devices. They also write programs to handle the collection, manipulation and distribution of data for a wide variety of applications and requirements. They perform the functions of a computer system analyst, operate telecommunications systems including automated networks and the full spectrum of data links and circuits.

This is not a "dumbed down" rating in any sense.

Regards,

Hans, Master Chief Radioman, USN (Retired)
Dear Master Chief Hans,

You are too kind. Later on , I will thank you more appropriately. As for now, You are too kind.

Cordially, John's dad.

My daughter is an IT (which is the former Radioman rate) & loves her job. There are plenty of opportunities for advanced learning in this rate and it is by no means a DUMBED-DOWN version. In addition, this rate transfers into exceptional job opportunities in the civilian job market. My daughter has been in the Navy 2 yrs this month & is a Petty Officer 3rd class & will be taking the 2nd class exam in Sept.
Dear Pat,

Thanks for the kind responce. Forgive me, but i am somewhat distracted, because i must get up in 5.5 hours and fly to Groton and meet my son in " Radio" School !!! then we must go to his sister's wedding this Saturday !! Forgive me, please.

With Warmest Regards, John in Brooklet, Ga.
