Congradulations to you and your son. My son graduated 8-28-09, this last Friday. Off to sub school in Groton next. Great Lakes was an experience my son seems to look at as a positive one. He really never said a cross word about it. Rolled his eyes sometimes on several stories about different things. Took the whole experience very seriously and was back to base on time every night. No drinking or smoking or even walking with a beverage while in uniform. It was great to see him.
Great Lakes does amazing things to our kids...they come out as sailors. THE Great Lakes are pretty damn big......
Yes, after 8 weeks of BC it is like our kids are replaced with an alien...WOW! Prior to leaving GL (After PIR) for home, I asked my son if he neeed anything and within a few seconds, I was informed he loved me; however, I need to remember that he is now in the Navy/A man and that he can take care of himself. What a concept to hear from your child (A mix blessing - It was great to know he is on his way of becomng a productuve and confident professional whom has direction and life to purse of his own (Yahoo one down and one to go and I will be an empty nester). Yet, on the other hand, as a parent it is never easy to let them go. Speakinf of GL, it looked like a great place to be station at but hear it is a bit chilly in the winter. As being prior service, one will always have fond memories of BC and their first duty station, since it is often one's first time living far away from home and being on their own.
Ronnie will soon be off to Florada for his advanced training... He is going to be a Cryptography Tech... after the Navy he plans to work for the FBI... He is now the man with the plan...
