My son just left for boot camp on October 28 and I know that this is jumping the gun considering all the possible scenarios that will decide my son's PIR... but if his boot camp takes the "normal" length of time, will graduation still occur on a holiday?

Paul,
Still no word but soon I'm sure. I keep hearing that no news is good news. We're hoping for Monday. Any more news from your daughter?- I hope she's doing well!

They have the hard job now. Large group of people to become a team in a short period of time. An entirely different world to learn and challenges ahead of them. Once they make through Boot camp it gets easier- "A" School will be just as strict "Continuation of Boot Camp as I call it" in a sense. Smaller class sizes.Additional freedom's earned along the way. They will have their duty nights, Able to go on liberty at different times during training. Possible Civilian Cloth's chits after a certain point in training as well. Then look out "Fleet". . I am so excited for them all.
I wouldn't plan on them taking any leave to go home until they are between "A" School and first duty station.
My wife has always said being a Navy Wife is the toughest job in the Navy. She has changed that to a heart felt 'Being a Navy Mom is the toughest Job in the Navy". I can see that!
Hopefully you'll receive news tomorrow.
Still no word from my daughter, I know boot camp is only 8 weeks- not that long a time. Still can't help hovering for news on how well things are going. My prayers go out to your son as well on his success.
My son left for boot camp on October 27. We received my son letter confirming her PIR is 30DEC.
The PIR(Pass in review) Dates have been updated today (09NOV09)on the RTC web site.
Paul,
Got the letter today with David's PIR date- December 30, just like you said. But the best part was that I got a call from him today while I was at work. Someone there needed more information for his clearance and let him use an office to call me. I was in a meeting but somehow thought that it might be him... strange. He says everything is good, that he was chosen to be group leader and that the food is real good. PT starts today for him and the swim test is tomorrow. Absolutely made my day.

Christopher,
We got that same letter today too with the four personal message lines. It was great to finally hear something from him. My wife and I are now empty nesters and with our youngest going into the Navy, it has been quite the change for us... sad, proud, worried... just like everyone else. Hope your son is getting along great, Christopher.

Mark, Great news that you received a call from son, even if it is for security clearance info. It helps to fill in the gaps of time (not knowing is a killer). Same grad date for us as well "30Dec" . Because of the Wednesday graduation we plan to stay in Great Lakes a little longer probably head home early morning Sunday. My daughter's "A" school is on the main base in Great Lakes so were hoping she will be what they call Grad and Go. That way she will check out of Boot Camp and report to her "A" School so to speak and then be able to spend time with us each day. She will be able to get her Cell phone back from us on the "A" school side as well as have access to the computers to help keep family up to date. If not a "Grad and Go" we'll have to mail the Care Package....
Hope you continue to hear great news.....
I just today found out my sons address, it's Ship #9 Div #34. I am very new to this and was wondering if anyone can give me some info on how this breaks down. If I sound stupid on this I apologize in advance. Thank you.
Shane,
I'm right there with you but here's how the address needs to read:

SR Snyder, Sean (middle initial)
SHIP 09 DIV034
Recruit Training Command
3415 Sailor Drive
Great Lakes, IL 60088-3515

Mail often!

Thanks for the info that will help a lot. funny how just getting the address is somewhat a relief, when I was in the recuriters office they still had some pictures up of Sean, he was really well thought of in the office (spent close to a year DEP) and made a lot of friends with the recuriters. So I will get a letter off to him yet tonight.

Shane,
I know exactly what you mean. With David joining the Navy (our youngest son), I was worried for him and worried for my wife when the separation occurred- only to find out that I was the one that was hit the hardest. Two weeks went by with no word and then a call at work... makes me emotional still. But now I know what I really knew all along- that he was fine and happy and I'm proud as hell. Before David left, he was very nonchalant about getting a lot of mail- that he would be fine... and when we spoke he said, "Dad, remember how we talked about the letters?... those will be important. Some of the recruits are already getting mail and all of the others are wishing they had letters too." The next morning, I drove to the Post Office and bought 20 stamped envelopes. I'm going to send him a letter every day even if I have nothing to write. Good luck, Shane with you and your son and family.

It is really nice to be able to talk to someone else about this, I more then anyone in our family including my ex wife (Seans) mom. had the hardest time with him leaving even though we had been planning on it for almost a year still was pretty painful. I am very proud of him and know this has been the right decision (he has been planning on the Navy every since he was 12). He is a great kid and I know will be a good man.
