PIR 30 December, 2009 "Navy Boot Camp Graduation"

It appears that there will be lots of us at Great Lakes on this date, God willing. I've read lots and lots of great tips for the graduation from this site and Navy4Moms... Maybe we can keep each other advised as we move forward. My son, David is in Ship 09, Div 038. I understand that PT starts today and swim test is tomorrow. God bless them all.

from Dave:
well I doubt that... they've changed the access list and the ones who are really worried about it are parents who've already arranged flights etc (which from here in Oregon is a $700 ticket) I'm not tending towards conspiracy theory at all, but I am concerned that this appears to be coordinated at some level by someone..I don't think I'm going to get any real answer before PIR, if then.

could also be a way to motivate a division that is not coming together very well.......I wouldn't tend towards the "conspiracy" theory......

I'm wondering if people are being "persuaded" to give up their seats to/by other recruits ?

Paul, I appreciate the effort and on the surface it seems ridiculous, but 3 people from the same division have reported the same thing (independently) and my step son is absolutely torn up about the whole thing as it means one of his step parents does not get to go, which has caused a huge rift and means graduation will not be pleasant. I'm not sure what he could have to gain from this.....Presumably, on the day we'll get to see the list and then we'll know for sure.

folks...I have edit and delete some of these discussions that have personnel info psoted...they didn't bother to tell me yesterday:

I received the following response this morning (Thursday) from the PAO at RTC:

The seating is four and has always been four. I cannot control what recruits want to tell there parents.
whew... what a way to create a controversy! It appears that with those of us that have contacted the PAO office and got the same response that all recruits are given four seats, coupled with the fact that there has been no formal announcement regarding any reduction in availability that we can put this to rest. Now we can concentrate on the cool stuff- the graduation, seeing and hugging our new sailors, meeting new friends and worrying about the weather. By the way- I just made reservations for a rental car (from Dollar) and I asked for a discount (told them that we Dads discuss these things on NavyDads and they gave me a 10% off the total. Cool how that works.

I'm always reminded that I was once told..."all they can do is say no....". Always ask!!

Battle stations should start this week Tuesday & Final written on Mon 21st for Div 33 and 34 is as well. Good luck to all our Recruits, It will be a busy week getting the 14 divisions thru it all. They had their Captains Cup Competition yesterday(Sat) Would love to hear how that turned out as well..Our prayer go out to everyone, and have a great week
Paul:

My son is in Div 34, I got a letter from him last week and he said that they were going to be really really busy this week. His mom and sister are flying back there on the 29th for the PIR. It really seems like it has gone pretty fast. I know Sean is really looking forward to getting to Texas and MA school.

Sean orginally said that they had liberty until the 6th but then it was changed to the 2nd. He has known that he was going to Texas even before starting boot. I was with you I thought that Texas was the only place they sent them for MA school. Anyway he said that he leaves for Texas on the 4th and should be done with MA school sometime around Feb 20th.

Hey Mark,
Look at the date you created this post, over a month ago and we are traveling next week. Fingers crossed for the final weeks training. This is awsome and has flown by. Have a Happy Holiday and safe travel to all traveling to PIR. Weather outlook is currently looking well. Hope to see everyone there!!!!!!!! Be sure to review the letter we received around week 2 with PIR instructions to ensure all guests have proper ID etc.

Paul,
Time has gone by pretty quickly as of late... funny how slow it seemed at first. I can't tell you how much we're looking forward to seeing our son, David, and to see the graduation. My father was a Marine (Staff Sergeant) in the Marines during WW2 and that's what I wanted to do myself but it didn't work out- but with David joining the Navy, I'm excited for him. I can just imagine the adventure that is before him. Hope to run into you at Great lakes!
