We visited Pensacola Beach when our son was in A School. We stayed in a condo recommended on TripAdvisor.com and thought it was a fine place to stay. I can't remember the name of it but I'll try to find something to refresh my memory. TripAdvisor is usually right on with their reviews. We may be heading back down in October to help our son find a place to live before he reports for duty with the Blues. We'll be using TripAdvisor again to find a place. Pensacola Beach is a nice area; very enjoyable.
I found the place where we stayed: Soundside Holiday Beach Resort. It was very nice, although there was a guy in the condo next door who snored pretty loud. I don't know if he's there year-around! You can find reviews on TripAdvisor.com. When are you going?
Not sure when we will be going. Still trying to figure out my son's "schedule." If anyone has some basic info for me, it would be appreciated: currently in "hell week" then onto ??????. Not sure how long he stays at Pensacola. He is going to be a rescue swimmer but I do not believe he has a start date for school.

Hi there, let me try to help a little. My son Tom is in his 2nd week of Rescue Swimmer School. It sounds like your son is in his first week of Air Crew Candidate School which lasts for four weeks. The first is Hell Week, followed by Disney Week (this is when they go on the simulators like the Helo-Dunker), then comes Tom Cruise Week (when they get their flight suits and cool shades) followed by week 4 which is review and graduation. Once he passes that with enough others, then he classes up to Rescue Swimmer School which is five weeks. My son only had one week in between ACCS and RSS. We went to our son's ACCS graduation a few weeks ago, they don't make a very big deal out of it but try to be there for it if you can, your son would really appreciate it, it was an honor for us to be there.
We stayed at a place called the Purple Parrot Resort, 10 minutes from the base, 2 minutes from the grocery store and the beach, 20 minutes from the airport, super clean, we got it for a week for about $500 but they also rent for shorter periods of time. It's on Perdido Key, here's the link: http://www.perdidokeyresortmanagement.com/
Any other questions don't hesitate, just ask, I talk to my son every day so I'm pretty much up to date.

Danny - You are my newest best friend. Thanks for the info. I may have more Qs to follow.

Quite alright Tom, we had a really good time down there, where we stayed was right around the corner from a state/federal beach called Johnson Beach. For 8 bucks you get a pass for the whole week and the beaches were really clean, probably even cleaner now. Good places to eat all over the place, make sure you go to the Naval Air Museum on the base, we just had a blast down there. Keep me posted.

Will do. Already sent a request for availability to Purple Parrot for labor day weekend (that would be 4 weeks and probably my son's ACCS graduation).
