Frank thanks for joining. I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads wouldn't feel guilty interacting in a woman's world. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud navy dads just like myself. Good luck and thanks again for joining. EG

Hey Frank thanks for the informative message that you sent about your son's graduation. CONGRATULATIONS.
    Two Questions though.
    1) Will I need tissues for the eyeballs. I am sort of the crying type.
    2) Being that I am from Miami, do you think that I will get to enjoy the pool at the motel when my son graduates in February?

Hey Frank being that you are a Pat's Fan, would you be interested in joining our Fantasy Football League with Yahoo. I posted this info on the Forum and I also sent all the members a message about this. It would be great to have you join.

Yeah Frank, I am a "Big Time" Elvis fan. I was able to visit Graceland in 1978 the year after his death and it was a great experience. I have been dying to go back and hopefully I will one day. Take care and God Bless.

Never been to Graceland but I have been to Nashville a few times. I would love to go to Memphis. I was a professional musician for many years and still write allot of tunes. They have some great Elvis stuff in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, his cars, the original tape recorder they used at RCA etc.

08/01 also. My son was in 272 ship 12. We probably crossed paths a couple of times down there. PIR was awesome, wasn't it? Now he's in VA, waiting to start training.
  • Rick

Wow, and looking at things now, it looks like your son and mine are going to be classmates. Imagine that. Did Sumner fly down (up, over, whichever way it is) on Wednesday also?
  • Frank

I am not sure if Sumner flew down Tuesday or Wednesday. He called Wednesday. I talked to him yesterday and he said he still had not started his ISA school in VA but that he liked it down there.
  • Luis

Frank, I apologize, you probably can't get in because all the 20 teams were chosen and therefore the system doesn't allow anybody else to get in. Sorry about that. Luis

I was thinking of the cab thing just so I dont have to rent a car...did you rent a car also, or cab it everywhere??
  • Frank

I rented a car but did not have a base pass so I got the shuttle to the base. If you go on www.hotwire.com you can get a rental for about $13 a day from Hertz. I flew from Boston for $277 round trip and I think the car for 3 days was like $45.
The base is a long way from the airport so the car rental was actually a better deal then a cab.

    Frank,
Sorry, I missed your response. Dillon tells us that they are STILL waiting for classes. They were supposed to start this last Monday, but got pushed back again. At the rate they're going, they aren't going to get done until December.
Is Sumner regular Navy or Reserves? Dillon signed for reserves this time, but my move to regular after his time is up.
  • Rick

Feel free to grab some. I'm expecting some more and some video soon. My parents (his grandparents) were up there with us, and they took a lot of pictures too.
  • Rick

Yes, he's up there now. He flew in on the evening of the 5th, I think. He told my wife on Monday that they still hadn't started classes, but they were expecting to at any time. I did ask Dillon if he knows Sumner, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. I'll keep you posted.
  • Rick

    Hi Frank,
I found out Wednesday, our sons are friends up there. Small world, huh?
  • Frank

Thats really good news. Perhaps we will meet one of these days. SUmner said it is likely he will be in school there until at least January as he will be going from A School to C School. I am confident he will do well.

I sure miss him though as he was my only child and lived with me since he was four years old.

It is Fair Season here in New England so we are going to the Woodstock CT fair. The Jefferson Starship is playing there today so it should be a good day for the fair.
Where are you and Dillon from?
  • Rick

We're from Nebraska. Been here all my life, and so far, this has been all that Dillon has known. It will be interesting to find out where he ends up, once he's done with college and all. I have a pretty good idea that he'll be staying around for a while longer, but after that, who knows. The world is a big place.
Dillon is our oldest (of three boys.) We are missing him a lot also. Everyone said that once they get to A school, they will be able to contact home more often, but I think he's enjoying spreading his wings a little bit.
So, does C school start right after A school? The recruiter mentioned that they may have him do C school, but we haven't heard anything since. Are you saying that Sumner should be done with C school in January? Has he told you when A school is projected to be done? Just wondering.
Is Starship playing with anyone else? They were here last week at the State fair, and were on the ticket with Styx.
  • Frank

The info I get from Sumner is sketchy at best but I believe C school starts right after A school. I think Sumner thought he would be done with A school in January.
The Starship was by themselves but their were other bands playing other days I think Smashmouth and Fog hat also played.
  • Rick

Dillon told us that he should be done with A school around mid November. Maybe it's more advanced for the sailors going into active duty.
