"Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of lifes longing for itself. They may come through but not from you, and though they are with you, yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love, but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, for their souls should dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite and he bends you to his might that his arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness; for even as he loves the arrow that flies, so he loves also the bow that is stable."

What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:
Extremely overwhelmed with a sense that I did something right in raising my kids
Craig thanks for joining. I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud navy dads just like myself. Thank your Son's for their service for me. Good luck and thanks again for joining. EG
Hi Craig, my name is Ralph and my son Ralph Jr., is in A school for MA. The school is in San Antonio Tx. My son just finished his first week. He was OC sprayed yesterday. If you want to see videos on MA school go to navy for moms.
The oldest Andrew Just graduated from Aviation Electrician's Mate school at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL. He is awaiting orders to a permanent duty station. The younger Son Adam is still at home a senior. He wants to join the Coast Guard. My daughter is in 10th and working on a silver award for girl scouts.
We are with Troop 1025 of the Grater Pittsburgh Council. I am a troop committee member and have 10 plus years.
Hi,
Andrew received his orders Friday. He is off to Hawaii. He has been assigned to a squadron of P-3 Orisons. He is to make a stop at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island for "C" school.
Don't report dates, but he is authorized leave before reporting. I know that he has some plans to attend his brother HS grad and a friends wedding. He must make the decision.
Craig,
Anything new from Great Lakes? I know they are given much free time. It will be better after Boot Camp. We sent Andrew his cell phone back not long after Boot Camp. Text messages are pretty common events at our home. That little bit of contact makes a big difference.
Bravo Craig for rasing two fine young Americans- I also have a son and daughter serving the Navy....my daughter in the Pacific fleet and my son in the Atlantic fleet. I'm reassured on such a tragic day as Sept. 11 to know that we're in good hands with children like ours protecting us!!
Craig,
Thing are happening fast you. There naval personal all over the place! They will enjoy Pensacola. The base atmosphere is much more relaxed. Parts of the base are beautiful and it is the home of the Blue Angles. Tell Conner to hold on to that excitement and not let the routine grind at him. Delete Comment
Thanks Terry, not worried about luxuries, just need a bed and a head. What would be a good time to get started to avoid traffic and all ? I know what times ar posted on RTC website I just like some experienced abvice!
Craig
I was looking at your Sep. 11 comment and you have a PIR coming up in about 2 weeks. Andrew is to be home next week. We are waiting for him to adjust his airline Ticket a pay for the going home leg of the trip. We are thinking Monday based on what he said early this week. The he is off to Whidbey Island, WA. for C school. I posted a photo from his new squadron in action on my page.
How are the plans coming to travel to Great Lakes?? Delete Comment
Hi Chuck...will be going up to RTC on Oct 16 for son's PIR on 17th. He's currently Forward Hold (supply closet) PO and is doing great. Says he likes the food (he wasn't an adult leader in troop long enough to enjoy our cooking!) and has his firearm quals this week. Daughter shipped 9-15-08 so her fun hasn't started yet.
Isn't great to see them begin to succeed on their own. You always knew they could, but you're not there and all the things you modeled, taught ,and yelled are taking hold from the seeds planted throughout their life.
Thanks Craig-- I keep playing with that page for some reason!! It's great your three-year old is learning that serving means time away and sacrifice.....they continue to surprise us indeed. Eric sent an e-mail about a port visit soon and said : "Oyeah, im doing a community out reach program helping a childrens education center with some work, painting and what ever else they need. I think it’s a good idea, im going to try to do that in every port we visit. I told my chief and he thought it was a damn good idea." Let the talking heads say whatever they want...with kids like ours we're in fine shape.

Hi Craig, my son Ralph will be graduating A school for MA on october 10. He told me he is having a blast in A school. He has got his order he will be stationed in Corpis Christi for 3yrs. My wife and I are leaving on the8th.
Craig- this is a link the the Lincoln's slide shows....there are a ton of photos there of the ships, planes, sailors and etc. for you to look at with your 3-year old......enjoy
This past weekend my daughter received her Silver Award as a Cadet Girl Scout. We indeed are blessed by our children. We were pleased with her achievement. The only thing is that could have made it better is Andrew getting his leave started and be home for the Court of Awards..
Hey Craig, Can't figure out what's up with the Vols. I look at it this way. Last year I would get on-line and check the polls. This year, don't have to worry about it. Heard this little boy talking the other day that his mom and dad beat him all the time. He's going to live with the Vols because they don't beat anyody.
Yes we are fron Lebanon Tennessee and Brad will graduate this Friday and will come home for 2 weeks we are so excited then he will be stationed in Travis AFB in CA we are real excited to hear about that as he was to go to Iraq or Baraine.
Craig,
I have Andrew home this week!! The best part is the sense of completeness or maybe wholeness in the family. He looks great. He is satisfied and adjusted to Navy life.
He was a little bummed about Hawaii as a duty station at first, but now my impression is that he is eager to get through this last training in Washington and get to use his training to fix something.
