Jeff thanks for joining. I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads wouldn't feel guilty interacting in a woman's world. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud navy dads just like myself. Thank your Son for his service for me and thank you as well. Good luck and thanks again for joining. EG
Yeah the kids got it easy now...................DI's can't even give attitude adjustments anymore..............lol. I was in 6/72 - 1/77 11B / 11C, went from basic at Knox to Carson then Korea and lastly Stewart, then messed up the knees too bad to stay in. Guess the body wasn't made to do PT runs in combat boots and jump out of perfectly good Huey's on a rope.
My son Doug is in Div 337 / Ship 14. Right now he seems to be having problems receiving mail, hasn't received anything sent to yet by anyone. I figure either the Navy RTC is really screwed up compared to any Army post I have every been to OR he pissed off an RDC and he/she is messing with him, he tends to have my attitude towards real dumb stuff, so it's a strong likelyhood it happened. I am going to give it a few more days then I'll start being a pain, nothing worse then dealing with an ex-NCO that never was impressed by officers.............I am sure the Navy has their version of an IG. I figure if he is already on a shit list, my stirring the pot wont hurt, and if it's post mail service....they need to get squared away. After doing 4 years of NJROTC he pretty much what he was getting into. Other then the visit to the gas chamber and battlestations he has already had most of book work. Hope to see him at PIR if the women involved to mess up the plans...........have to take the wife/his gf/gf's sister up there. Looking to start booking hotels and such now. Won't be up there until late on the 11th or early on the 12th depending on how long it takes the women to pack and load up.
Got a short note from Doug, trying to read between the lines it seems like he is fed up with the Navy already. Seems like they are getting extra IT on a regular basis. He said he was having trouble making the PT run on time. Hope he hasnt just given up because of the BS. The FBI was around today doing his background check since he is heading to CT "A" school after boot camp. I stopped in at his recruiters office today and they are going to check up for me. Hope to see you at PIR next month (knock on wood)...........look for the old grunt in the Army t-shirt.
Welcome aboard Jeff, I was offline for a week or two and missed your initial entry here. Thanks for your service in the Army, glad to see another of Uncle Sam's loved ones...we get his love note (in the bank) early each month! I retired after 24 years in the USN, and served as an Aviation Electronics Technician. What did you do in the USA? Thanks also for raising the next generation of patriots! We look forward to hearing more about Jeffrey II. What does he plan to do after boot camp? Blessings, Kevin
Hi Jeff, RP is an interesting rating. On the one hand they serve on base doing all the preparation for chapel services, kinda like a deacon and administrator mixed together. On the other hand, if they deploy with the Marines, the RP serves as both the chaplain's assistant and personal bodyguard. Did Jeffrey II get an advanced paygrade due to his college credits? Luke just recently graduated high school, did well on his ASVAB, and initially wanted to go special warfare (SEAL/SWCC), but in boot camp had a change of heart and chose gunners mate (GM). We enjoyed his PIR and spent the day with him near GL (Waukegan), then flew back home on Saturday. Luke is currently in A school leading up to his formal GM training. It's great to see these young men thinking through their options and making responsible decisions.
