Welcome Aboard!

My name is E.G. and I have three sons and a beautiful daughter. I also have the most amazing wife, Cindy. Our oldest son "Evan" served as an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca and my family and I couldn't have been prouder.

My Navy Dads journey began when my son enlisted in April, 2008. I started building NavyDads.Com while he was still a recruit at RTC in Great lakes. I designed, built, and launched NavyDads.com June 18, 2008, two days before his Navy graduation.

My hope is that this site will help Navy Families find answers to questions, share concerns, help another along, and lastly, a place to show their pride for their Sailor.

Thank you for creating this. Even though i had been in the army infantry, I found myself really nervous about his well being in boot, and all the information i've found here, has really settled it all down for me. Awesome work..
  • Julie (Boo's mom)

Thank you and your family for all that you are doing. This is what sets military families apart from civilians. I have been a AF BRAT all my life and have friends all over the world because of my father's career. I wish he were here to see Jeremy.
  • Julie (Boo's mom)

Can anyone tell me where I can find information on the Eisenhower Tiger cruise 7-28-2009? My daughter and I are going but do not have a room for the night of the 27th and wonder were everyone else is staying. I was also looking for a what to and what not to pack list.
    Thanks!

First off "Thank You" for starting this site. Is nice to know NAVY Dads have a place to go and talk or ask questions.
  • Cindy

Hey Navy Dad's Creator....Do I see a certain young Evan on the home page of Navyoutfitters.com?
  • Rick S.

Hey, Navy Dads Creator, thanks for having on this site. My sailor is off to A school in Great Lake as Fire Fighter/ Hull Tech. How do I get a forum for Hull Techs?
  • TravisM

Thanks, EG, for the welcome. I just found this site last night. My son is in boot camp at Great Lakes now, about halfway through. After that he's in pre-bud/s there and then to San Diego for Bud/s. It's all he's ever wanted to do, since he was about 4 or 5. Obviously, I'm proud of him, though I must say I really miss my little boy...I'm getting a fine man in trade though.

I'm not sure what I can contribute here; all my experience is in the Marine Corps 40 years ago. But I'll do anything I can to help any of you guys; all you gotta do is ask. Heck, you don't even have to ask if I know I can help.

    Travis

when my daughter was in boot camp it was a father who helped me thru. So once I found out about this site I had to check it out
  • Chuck

    How's life treating Evan?
  • Chuck

Great to hear about Evan’s good experiences on board the Reagan. It s important to at least like what you are doing. You sound encouraged that he is adapting and working well. Could there be a Tiger cruise in your future?
Andrew is settled into life on the Marine Base. He has been with his own squadron since early June. He seems to like the work atmosphere better than the other temporary assignments. From what we hear Andrew has begun to enlarge his circle of friends and enjoy some of the activities. I know that he has been kayaking. We are hoping to go to see him next May????
Our big news is that 19 of our immediate family are going on a cruise. My father-in-law has had a dream of taking his family on a cruise for a number of years. The best news is that Andrew got his leave approved go on the cruise July 9, 2009. We will have a sailor in our group.
  • Cindy

I don't blame you for putting that photo on the site. Sides, how many really know that's Evan!

Morgan's putting more grey hairs on me than I want and Kelson's right behind him! At this time, I will have a daughter-in-law end of December. Nothing will change for her other than maybe her last name. One of those incidents in life I'm going to talk to your lovely Cindy about!

Currently, he's up in the mountains for three weeks. I should say was. He left on the 13th for the Bridgeport base which is about an 11 hr drive from CP. Was up at around 8,000 ft working in a BAS while the rest of the units and their corpsman got to run 15 miles a day! He really didn't mind not having to do that.

He's now in the Nevada desert working in a wooden shack (BAS). They sent him with the big weapons units. I like to ask him if the guys had fun playing with their big toys. He does nothing but sit, hopefully, someone with dehydration will come in! They head back to base August 5th.

That's about it. Plans are he'll still deploy to Afghanistan in April/May. Who knows, may be sooner, may be later, may not be at all. Sure am glad God knows! Thanks for writing! Haven't heard from you in a long time.
  • Mark celec

Thanks for your kind words, and for creating this site. I'm sure it will help all of us stay in touch with our kid's journey while in the military, and be informative as well. Thanks again, M. E. Celec
  • Pam Tucker

Thanks for the welcome. I felt a little funny joining NavyDads since I'm a mom, but I have to say that this site is the first one that had his "job" listed with a group so I figured no one would mind if I joined.

I will pass on your message to Alex in my next letter.

    EG,

Thank you for your welcome. My son Blain left for boot camp at Great Lakes today and it was bittersweet. I am very proud of him but I know I will miss him as well. The Navy has already given him a focus that he did not have before. It is great having a site to go to and express my feelings and see that other dads feel the same way.

I also will tell Blain in my first letter of your thatks to him. We do not have his address yet but will soon. Thank you, Bob
  • J & G's Mom(AK Mom)

I joined NAVY Dads for Tech advice and to have access a Dad's view of the new Navy. I was in the USN from 86-91 (Anti Submarine Warfare) where I tracked sub from Adak to HI. Now I am a mom of new sailor who is in the MFF so there is much to learn. I also was enlisted in the AF for 4 yrs and worked as a contractor for the AF and AR so I can speak many languages but prefer the USN. What I do see on Navy Moms we site is ther are mny who have no ideas of the militray and what is all involved. Bleive me it is totally differnt as a parent vs being the one in uniform. Now as a vet I am also learning more. All and all having been attached to the system for over 22 years in some fashion, I do understand the system quite well. Thank you, Dixie from Alaska
  • Patrick Perreault

    EG,

Thanks for the welcome. Matt left for boot camp yesterday. Definately proud of him and already missing him more than I imagined. I can already tell that this site has all the key information I need.

    EG,

Thanks for providing this resource for all the proud fathers of these new sailors ... I think it will ease the minds of many!

I, too, found N4M and am very impressed with the website. I have encouraged my wife to register and participate.

I had abandoned hope that a similar site existed for Dads, until I stumbled across this site last night. Do you have a link on N4M? I didn't notice. It might help attract more attention to this site. You know what they say, the three fastest means of communication are 1. television, 2. telephone and 3. telewoman ... LOL!

Anyway, once again, a great thank you for providing NavyDads.com!

    Cheers,
    Andrew

I was jealous that my wife had Navy moms and all the wonderful support... so delighted that this is available. I think I'll be able to give Joel info the Navy has not given him yet.I am busting at the seams with pride for my boy.... man. He has been through the hard knocks of high school etc where academics and him did not get along well. He decided to attempt college, but it was not for him, so at age 22 he headed for the Navy after finding the love of his life. He has done extremely well at boot camp. 100% on all tests but one where he missed one question. He ends all his letters with "just trying to make you proud" It brings tears to my eyes every time. I am so delighted with his success fro him, because it has been such a boost for his self esteem. I've always believed in him but he never trusted himself. So after graduation, he is getting married during Liberty so they can head to Japan together.
Thanks again for this sight. I am definitely Navy Proud.
  • John Guminiak

Thank you for the warm wishes. I too found the Navy for Moms website and while it is a great site, I found it too much into the chatty conversations and what everyone was going to wear to PIR etc. I am so glad that you started this site and really happy that I found it. My son graduates boot camp in 6 days and I couldn't be more proud of him for choosing to serve our great country. God Bless your son and please let him know that there are many of us that are thankful for his service and we are proud for everything he does.
  • Luis

Hey EG, hope that all is well. EG, my Sailor started his second phase of school and he thinks that he will then have C School. Quick question, he has been hearing the kids around him say that they have 3 years of reserve duty after they have done their 4 years. Is this true or does a Sailor or any military person just serve the period that is on his/her contract? From your experience what usually happens to the ATO's once they finish C School. You take good care and God Bless. Luis-Navy Dad & DAMN Proud!

Hi Dads, I'm Jeff's Mom, and thought I'd pass along the following link that the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON)(SS/SW) Rick D. West, sent earlier this week. It honors our 2009 Sailors of the Year, in their own words. Makes you proud to listen to them, and be part of this Navy Family!!!!

Louis---HELLO stranger..missed seeing you on N4M's,,but here you are. Will read up on your sailor later today......

    Hi E.G.,

My wife mentioned n4m a few weeks ago... I took a look and quickly asked myself "I wonder..." and here I am.

I frequent a lot of boards, and I've got are reputation for being quite outspoken. I'll try to keep the rhetoric to a low simmer. I respect and thank everyone that wears the uniform. I cannot deny I have a huge problem with the politics of the Commander in Chief. I certainly know how to distinguish our honorable servicemen, from the politicos that pull the strings. Well, now you know.

See you in the pages ^_^
  • Tim & Julie Meeks

Thanks for the warm welcome, It's nice to know thier is plenty of support out thier. W ejust departed from Brandon yesterday the 5th, he finally got into Great lakes around 8:00pm.. We got that scipt call everyone has been talking about... Pretty tough to swallow (but I understand).. what was more disturbing about the call was he said the next call home will not be for about 3 weeeks.. I know I sound like a wimpering dad but he is our yougest (baby) pretty tough.. But we are so proud...
QUESTION; He said we would recive a package (im sure it is what you all have been calling a "Kid in the Box") with all the information we need, but my guess is that will take a few days?? can we not send any letters to him before then, if so how do we know they will get to him? We don't have his Navy numbers, al I have is the main address to the camp?
  • Howard I. Horn

Thanks so much for your words of encouragement and for starting this site. I came upon it after hearing about navymoms. com, as you tried. I look forward to exchanging ideas and learning what Evan is going through and events he will encounter. I will be sure to send your wishes when I write him (as soon as I get the box!!). Thanks again.
  • Cindy

Mr Navydads Creator...hello! Hope you are doing well. Would you please tell that sweet wife of yours that I sent her a private message. Didn't know if she has been on her page recently.
  • Bob Malone

    Thanks for the welcome.
I will in all probability be calling ion you and others to bring me up to date
on the Navy. In 55 years a lot has changed I am sure.
  • William M. Farmer

Thank you for leaving a comment recently. Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner but it took a little while to sort out Mike’s upcoming duty assignment. He spent last week and part of this week carrier qualifying out of NAS Oceana.

We now know that he is going to an expeditionary Prowler Squadron stationed at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan. He will be leaving shortly after Labor Day.
Do you know if there is a forum or group for Expeditionary Squadron families?
  • Raul Azpiazu

The time has finally come. My son Adam left on Monday and is in Great Lakes. There are no words for the pride we feel. Not hearing from him is the most difficult. However, we know he is doing what he wanted to do. Thanks for the support and I hope to get on the site more often.
Where do I find other dads whose child arrived at Great Lakes on Tuesday 8/11?
  • Joe Wendell Shelton

Hey my Son is in Groton Ct at Submarine school, I am so proud of him this is something I always wanted to do but was born in a bad time(baby boomer). But this has been especially hard because My Son was my best friend we worked together and played together I know it's good for him to get out from under Dads foot and I'm very proud of him!
Thanks for your comment and the great job you are doing with this site!
    Joe
  • Sam's (07/321) Dad

Thank you so much for the site and congratulations on your son!
  • RobertH

Thank you for your message. I can already tell this site will be a great help. I will def. be involved in this on a daily basis.
  • Paige

    EG,
That's great news about the NavyDads members reaching nearly 1000!! I checked the other day and noticed that we were getting close. I am hosting a Navy moms and dads get together this Saturday at my home. There will be several dads in attendance, so I had some of the flyers Paul created printed out and I plan to hand them out during our gathering. I also gave a large number of the flyers to our local Navy Recruiter's office. The PO1's response was "I didn't know there is a NavyDads site". Anyway, he passed the flyers out to his DEP recruits and also place some in a stand with the Navy brochures just outside their office in the shopping mall. It's like you mentioned, every little bit we do to spread the word is going to help.
Congratulations on creating and maintaining a great site which we all love and appreciate.
Hope all is well with Evan. Billy still isn't sure when the Howard is returning, but he figures the date will be close to when the Reagan comes in. Billy will finish his current C-School this week and then will start his final school on Monday.
  • Michael McNew

I know this site will help. My son is just now in the enlisting stage. He hasnt even gotten his date they will send him to basic training. I am simply trying to find out as much information as possible so I can help him as much as possible as well as myself.
  • Ana C

Thanks for your kind welcome. I have been "surfing" this site for a while now, and since James is graduating from A school today, I decided to join NavyDads in order to expand my Navy network family, learn more about the Navy way of life, and be here tp help in any way I can.
  • Colleen (NAVYForMoms.com)

Congrats on hitting 1,000 this week from the team here at Navy For Moms :)
  • barry

ty for creating this site when my son leaves for boot camp in dec i know i will find some help here
  • charles c. madott

thanks for your comment, and it's great having an organization like this.
  • NavyDCparent

Thank you so much for the warm welcome, I am reluctant to post pics of Jason w/o his permission...he is a low-key kinda guy. When he said he is going to be a DCFN I said, "You want to run toward the fire?" He said, "Mom, someone has to save the ship!"

I could not be more proud, he loves his job...I am here in San Diego where Jason was raised. He worked his plan he made on 9/11 all the way through school and almost to Eagle Scout ;p, kept his nose clean, he was a Chief in the Sea Cadets...you see, he was too important to be an Eagle Scout...but, he is doing very well and already made E3.

have you been listening to Mark Larson, KCBQ AM1170 San Diego broadcasting fromt he Reagan all week (not Monday)...he is interviewing some sailors...he has a blog that you can listen to and catch up...its neat to hear the sounds of the carrier. Capt Norton told the world they are 50 miles off the coast of Pakistan supporting the Marines in Afghanistan.

There was some kind of serious issue with special opps and we are praying for them but we don't know why...I do know that it has been a busy week for Jace, thank God for e-mail, it has saved his sanity and mine. ;)

Thank you again, I am thrilled that you are a Reagan Dad. God bless your son and thank him for his service...serve-us, serve U.S.~
  • George Pacheco

    EG,
Thank you for the quick response. I am new to this whole Navy thing even though Julian has an uncle who served on the USS Tang (Submarine) back in Vietnam and his Aunt who is currently serving in Kuwait. I believe this website is awesome an allows us fathers to see and react to current ongoing things that our children are going through. I know my son joined the best of the best when he chose the Navy (and thats coming from an Airborne Paratrooper) and I will forever be proud of him and all our children who are currently serving. Now if I can just get Army to beat Navy just one time, I will have bragging rights in the house!! Thank you again and we will talk again soon.

  • Tim Richardson

Thanks. I actually found the Navy Moms site first and figured there should be a Navy Dads site. So I did a serch and walah. Thanks for having this site. It helps to have someone to share your experiences with. We havn't heard from Tim since he left on Monday but we were prepared not to hear from him. He has been working on being in the Navy for over a year now and the day finally came for him. I am sad that I can't just call him anytime I want but I am extrememly proud of him and looking forwar to hearing his voice again.
  • Jack Michel

Thanks for the welcome. It is helpful being able to communicate with others with sons and daughters in the same service branch. I'm looking forward to my son's upcoming graduation and hope he gets as much out of his service as I did from mine.
