What Were Your Feelings When Your Sailor Joined The Navy:
Proud of what he has done and is doing and scared at the same time.
273 thanks for joining. I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. Thank your son for his service for me. Good luck and thanks again for joining. Sincerely, EG
Your welcome. I hope this site can help you find answers and maybe you can share some knowledge. We have a great group of people her at Navydads. Just let me know if you need anything.
Welcome to NavyDads 273! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what she is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric is a month into a seven-month deployment on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt and my daughter Kat just returned from her seven-month deployment on the carrier Abraham Lincoln. And 273 this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how he is doing! Best Regards- Paul
Getting used to the military life can be a challenge for sure.....but more you use resources like NavyDads, the broader your understanding becomes. BUDs is hard core and the dedication sailors like your grandson is tough to beat. I'm glad you are spending more time communicating with him...that is important to both of you in ways you proabably cannot imagine right now...so keep it up! There are a number of SEAL dads here...be sure to spend time in the SEAL group getting to know some of the other dads. Thanks for joining NavyDads! Paul
Ahoy Mate! There is a private chat function, but I do not know how secure that actually is. If you go the chat area on the main page, and click the user name, you are given the option about starting a private chat. I'd be cautious about that though...best is to invite people to become your Friend (go to their profile and under their photo is a option to Add as a Friend). Once they agree, then you can send a message (same area- under the photo)...these messages are private and no one should be able to see them.
Just a reminder when using anything over the 'net, caution is the best policy about what you say. Because of the nature of what our children do, we have to be ever cautious about what we say over the internet. I've sent messages to some of my Friends in NavyDads and have given them my home e-mail address for comm that should not be shared in a public forum such as Tiger Cruise details. You may want to do the same to stay on the safe side and protect your sailor! Best Regards- Paul
Thanks for the offer. I will probably take you up on the offer. Matt doesnt leave for boot until august. I didnt serve so I dont have the shared experience
I enjoyed reading about your trip to Coronado. I too had the opportunity to go there late last year. My son gave me the ultimate honor by asking me, not an instructor or officer, to come out and pin his gold "wings" by finishing his trials to become an AW and Rescue Swimmer. It was two years since he made that decision, which I trained him how to swim and meet the high qualifications to get in and finish #1 in his class in four months from Jan to May with my son having no previous backgroud in swimming. The specialness of Coronado is wonderful. That is by far the proudest monmet of my life, and after pinning those wings on him, he broke ranks and hugged me. What a feeling! I will never forget that place. From what they have said at graduation, the rescue swimmer program is second only to the SEALS as the hardest program to complete. My son has said some that have had to roll out of the SEALS trained with them in hopes to get back. What a great honor for your grandson to get though BUDS. Gods speed to him, and all the best to our men and women serving!
Thank you for the friend request!! I will not be on the computer as much in the next week. My sailor will be home for his brother's high school graduation and festivities. My wife has also planned some family activities. It is my duty and pleasure to accompany and enjoy.
Thanks for your comments. Garrett is AW3 on the USS George Washington stationed out of Japan as the first nuclear carrier to base there. He had his choice of orders and picked Japan for the adventure and desire to see the pacific rim. They are out to sea now, and plan to be back to Japan by the 1st of Sept. He came to me one day and said "I want to jump out of those Helos and save those pilots who are risking their lives for us". A dream that became a reality!

Good Morning,
I a back to a more normal (or as close as I get) mode. As we had our sailor home and a high school graduation, graduation reciption, and a couple of dental appointments. I was off work last week and gald to be with the whole family.
Please tell me about your granson.
Hi; I've been in Waco all my life w/the exception of 1 yr. It's a nice little town; but not near as little as it use to be. It's always fun to connect w/someone that's from your area; esp a place like this. I wish I could meet/find more Sailor/Navy families from here. I know there's got to be tons. Do you get here very often?
I undersatnd you're the BOSS of the SEAL Dads group! My oldest son is in BUD/S right now. I'd like to share info -- but want to make sure I don't break any security protocols. What can we talk about -- comparing notes on your grandson and my oldest son? By the way, my youngest son just went thru MEPC this week. He'll DEP for 12 months, then he'll go to Basic. He's taking his PST soon (hoping to begin his own SEAL journey). I have two sons -- and the Navy now has them both. I couldn't be more proud!
Thanks for the welcome. You know me as xfleetguy from NS.com.
Just checking this site out and it looks good although there doesn't seem to be many SWCC dads on the site. As you know my son is an active SWCC at SBT-22.
I will still help out as much as I can here if there are any questins concerning SWCC as I have studied it and do have some inside info on if needed.
Thanks so much, I think I missed him more than his mom at first, he worked for me all summer and we are pretty close. I know he will make me proud, as he already has.
Thank you for your comment . My son has his pir 10/2/09 and we are looking forward to seeing him. He is also looking forward to the pre buds work outs and actually getting to buds. I am very proud of my son as we all are. They all are really very special young men and I wish all the best of luck to them and there families There the best!
Saw your post about your grandson....HOOYAH!! Not very many perople have the strength, both mental and physical, to endure the training required....I know you are proud as can possibly be. Please forward my congratulations to your grandson and a big Bravo Zulu to accomplishing one of the toughest goals possible in the Navy....
Thank you grandpa, i thought I would infiltrate!!! LOL No really I saw a post on here about a mom that was struggling with her son being gone & jined to try to get her over to N4M's to help her out, I was in the same boat & thank God I found that site :)
Thanks for the comment. However, I think I will be taking a break for a while due to some confusion about the trivia section here. I just isn't worth the hassle. However, I appreciate your comment....
