My son is an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca. and my family and I couldn't be prouder of him. When he first enlisted I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit Navy Families that come behind me. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Grandfathers out there. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your grandsons journey in the Navy. Thank Jon for his service for me and for yours as well. Thanks again for joining us.
Welcome to NavyDads Bruce! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric just returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat returned last fall from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Bruce this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Jon is doing! And stop by the NavyDads offical store- Navyoutfitters.com. Show your support for NavyDads by wearing the latest in NavyDads attire.
And Bruce- thank you for your service to our great country. Best Regards- Paul
Hey Bob,
No, Michael has not selected a career yet, but I know he is deciding. I will make it to graduation regardless of anything. Thank you for the verbal support.

Hi Bob..My name is Steve and i probably have the most Navy Dads cards of anybody here. That is unless E.G or Paul had some made as i did.Right now i have about 1000 cards left.
Paul is the one that i got the template from. All I did was take the process one step in a different direction and instead of printing them from my computer as I needed them,I had them done at a printing company.Due to a small smudge on the back of the cards the company sent me besides the first1000, they sent me a second 1000 cards.
If you are interested i will send you as many cards as you would like at no charge.I chose to do this as a way of thanking E.G,Paul, and Terry for the work they have done on this site and all of the help they have provided as all of our sailors go thru this adventure. If you are interested send me a e-mail to ksbaker@compprime.com with your mailing address and i will get you some in the mail as soon as possible.
Bob
we ate allover the place...there was a good buffet it had all kinds of seafood...its by the boardwalk in virgina beach...OMG the food was very good there...as a matter of fact all the restaurants on the boardwalk was very good.....If i remember right rooms at the Navy lodge was 50 a day including tax...Just make sure at check in that yoou have a military id card to show cause they will ask...They gave us a break cause they knew Jason was on a ship coming home so as soon as his ship got to port we had to run him right over so that he could show them
Thanks Bob,
My son Stanley graduates on Oct. 2. He has talked about his experiences and look forward to his future. Tell your son my prayer are with him and thanks for serving.
I joined to learn a little more about the Navy and try to get help with some of my concerns. Our youngest went to boot camp in April and just graduated Corp School last week. It has not been a very smooth ride. He has been sick for 5 months and does not seem to get anyone who has a concern about his health. On top of that after graduation he was one of only two graduates that did not get to leave for a couple of weeks before heading to their next assignment. He has been placed on HOLD and no one seems to be able to tell him why or when he will get to leave. So in short, he's stuck in Great Lakes, sick and on hold with no idea if he will even get to go to his first assignment. Don't mean to be a "downer" here, but, it is just the way it is for him. I'd love for someone with a little Navy experience to tell me something constructive (other than welcome to the Navy) to help him out. So, anyone with similar issues I would love to hear how you overcame them.
Will do on the camera batteries. I understand that I can only take pictures inside during the PIR - no pics are allowed outside on base. Is this correct?
thank you Bob,
steve jr. left for meps on tuesday,I riecieved his call last night at 1:00am he sounded a bit
overwhelmed.I cant stop thinking about what he's going through.I thought I read on this site
to give his recruiter a call in about a week for a mailing address I'm thinking of calling his
recruiter today.do you think that may be to soon?regardless im going to start writing now.
I have watched the boot camp vids.a couple of times now.they
are very good.thank you and all for your warm greetings steve sr
Hello Bob,
Hope your feeling better,I did get Steve's mailing address, his recruiter seemed a bit surprised to have it so soon.ship 03,div.045.Is there any significance to these numbers?Anyhow I have mailed two letter's in so many days and have made sure most of his friends also get his address.Tomorrow I am going to try to scan some old and new photo's to send. I think I will try to tinker with updating my profile on this wonderful site.Suddenly I seem to have more time onh my hands! LOL
Thanks Bob. Matt just PIR'd on 12/30. He's heading to San Antonio 230 tomorrow morning. I wrote him almost everyday while he was at BC. Plan to keep that connection as long as I can.
Thanks for the great suggestions Bob. Appreciated your comment "Wish I were young again" Very happy with my life but yes, there are some things I'd do differently. Appreciate having support on this site. Makes letting go a little easier. Enjoy your day... was going to say "stay warm" as we're at -18 below in MSP but I see you're in AZ. Hopefully the dust storms have subsided.
Thank you Bob and I will pass your thank you on to my son. I have not been able to go see him yet but hope to one of these weekends. He lives on the ship so I would have to get a hotel room when I go down to see him and trying to save up some money to do that. That is great that you have been able to visit and hopefully I will be able to soon. Well take care and thank you for the comment and to your son for protecting us.
What kind of food do you like? We have over 1,000 restaurants in the area. I'll make some suggestions. Seafood: Chick's, Bubba's, Charlie's (she crab soup, fried flounder sandwich), Croaker's (excellent fresh fish dinners), Lynnhaven Fish House, Steinhilber's
Italian: Il Giardino's, La Bella Italia (tons of fresh baked bread and pastries) excellent entrees.
Thanks Bob for your comment, Steve did it the hard way enlisted after being turned down as an alternate to West Point Glynm Team( ( reason I had no miltary service) he wanted a career in the service. The family was not happy and we were both black balled and disowned until he came out of boot camp, college and now this . Good Luck to you your graandson and family Kindest Regards Hank
Thanks Bob! I'll pass your son's name along to Chris for reference. I don't doubt their paths will cross.
BTW, my dad served in the Navy 52-56. The first two in Korea, with some amazing stories from the beach heads. He was a Quartermaster, but I'm not sure his rate when he mustered out.
I have learned it's all about the population in your rating. My buddy was a Helo mechanic for 12 years, cuz there was a lack of them when he served in the 80s. He worked on Apaches, and the Black Hawk at the end of his career.
And who knows what Chris wants anyway? It depends on the statistics after his three year duty station is over. That's when they start dealing with the sailors' futures, as I've read.
