I'm very proud of her decision to serve in the Navy. It's hard to know that I wont be able to see her everyday, but I trust in God that He will take good care of her and watch over her. I strongly belief that my lovely daughter made the best decision for her future!

Welcome to NavyDads.com Gil! I'm sure you'll find NavyDads as useful, educational and informative as I have. Please explore the site and make some new friends. Read the discussions and add your comments. Browse through the postings in the various groups or start a new one. I certainly have! If you have any comments, questions or concerns about your sailor and what she is going through...be sure to post them! In my experience someone here can answer your questions or concerns or can point you in the direction to find out. I'm blessed to have two sailors in the family - my son Eric (AM3) is stationed on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat (MC3) just completed her enlistment on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Gil this is a great place to brag as well! So join in, get active, and be sure to let us know how Sherley is doing! Please remember that we talk about the Navy here and we must keep the security and safety of our sailors and the fleet in mind. On the right or starboard side of every NavyDads page is an area we call About This Site. Please take a minute and read through the Operations Security (OPSEC) link for some guidelines as to what we should and should not talk about in a public forum.

As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your daughter is going through. In the Navy Bootcamp group is a discussion called A MUST READ for all New Navy Parents. Read through this post as it will do a lot to give you some understanding about what your sailor is learning and why. And be sure to check out the videos available in the Bootcamp Group as well.

As PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailor's PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul

    Gil, Welcome Aboard!

When my son first enlisted in the Navy I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to his future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads but found out I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and hope this site will benefit fathers that follow behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your Sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your daughters journey in the Navy. Thank Sherleyl for her service for me and thanks again for joining us.

    Sincerely, E.G.

In about another 6 hours she'll be thinking "what the heck have I done here....."! You'll get the "sailor in a box" and the form letter in a few days....then nothing for about 3 weeks.....that's normal!

    Thanks Gil,
To have them home for Christmas will be awesome, it's worth the expense without a reimbursement much less with one. Will keep these kids in our prayers to be safe and stay on schedule. Thanks for the info, that makes my day.

Hey Gil....I gotta ask ya- was PIR everything we said it would be????

  • Gary Stang

Hey Gil.  My daughter Shelby graduates for IS A school on July 1.  She still does not know which C school she will attend.  Do you know when your daughter found out?  How long was your daughters C school.  Shelby will be coming home between schools if there is lag time between the two schools.  Does your daugther know where she is going next?  Thanks for the invite!
  • Gary Stang

Thanks Gil!  I am very proud of Shelby as she has been doing just great so far since she entered bootcamp in Jan.  She has been working extremely hard just like your daughter.  Thanks for the information!  You are right everything is hush, hush.  We already bought her airline tickets home in between schools as she had to put in for leave by tomorrow and she had to show them her flight information.  Her ticket was over $500 so I sure hope she is able to come home.  I am glad your daughter is doing well and have fun when she is home on leave.  Where are you from?  We live in Eden Valley MN.  I was also in the Navy for about 7 years.
  • Dick Hamm

Hi Gil! My wife and I watched it together. Very good insight. Love your video of your daughter. Hard to watch with a dry eye. A lot of love there for sure! Thanks!
  • Gary Stang

That is great that the two girls know each other.  Shelby absolutely loves the people that she goes to school with.  It sounds like they are a close knit group.  This is going much better than I anticpated.  I am very proud of Shelby and I so respect our Soldiers, Airmen and especially Sailors.

I would love to join your grop.  Please send me the invite and I will accept.  Thanks again for the friend request and keep in touch! :)  Thanks for starting the Intel site!  Gary

    Hi Gil,

Thanks for the encouraging comments, and thank you for your service for our country.

Based on your comments, I'm heading to the paper and pen right now to craft a note and send to my son. I'll wish him Happy 20th Birthday which is in a few days.

This site has been very helpful in letting me know what my son is going through, and I really enjoy the community of parents and others here that have the same sense of honor for their kids, and the same prayer focus as these young ones train for service in our Navy.

    Thanks again,

    John

    Hey Gil,

I appreciate your information given especially like the free food at the motel.  I will have to check this out but really, God bless you and your family and I will keep you posted how everything goes.

  • Barbara Ortiz

Thanks Gil! Glad to be here. This and Navy for Moms help to keep me from going crazy when I don't hear from my son! lol
  • Joe Wienski

Hey Gil, sorry I missed your comment yesterday.  My sons would say the same thing.
  • Stan Powell

Thank you Gil. I am grateful for your thoughts. This is a new journey for us all.

Good morning Gil. I wanted to say a most sincere thank you for the tip about the swearing in ceremony. When we asked the PO at the station, it was easy for the info . . . too bad they don't encourage it and even let the families of FS know about it. My wife, daughter and I are thankful for the opportunity to witness this. Robert's (Tanner) best friend, who is shipping out next Tuesday, was there also. Moving for him as a preview to his own journey next week. It was AWESOME.
  • Theresa

Your words are so true...didn't realize how hard it would be to not talk to Mark!  We are half way thru bootcamp and looking forward to a phone call.  Had our hopes up last week Friday and it never came!  Hoping to hear from him soon, but for now happy when the letters arrive.  We are very proud of our son!  Good luck to your children!

    Oh My God!!

    Your page is sooo coool!!!

    Thank you for your frienship!!

    Do you live in PR?

  • Jim Clemente

Thanks Gil. Most of these were taken while he was TDY to MA (master at arms) . For his first fourteen months on the ship he was TDY, yet expected to test as an IS for promotion. I was lost when he told me that. Never worked in your field, yet your promotion is nesed on it. As well as other qualifications. He got his surface warfare pin and was working on his air warfare pin when I spoke to him six months ago. I'm sure he has it by now.

  • Mother Always

    Good afternoon, Gill!

Hi Gil, --Thanks. We live in Rye, NH which is a small New England seaside community. My wife and I walk the beach nightly during the summer months with our Golden Retreiver, Teddi.  She took it with her IPhone.  It was one of those warm colorful evenings you want to last forever.  I am already looking at the pic longingly --we got six inches of snow last night!

  • RyeJim

Thanks again Gil.  You've made me feel very welcome .  Wow this is SOME page. --VERY impressive!! --Jim
