When my son first enlisted in the Navy I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to his future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads but found out I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and hope this site will benefit fathers that follow behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your Sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank David for his service for me and for yours as well. Thanks again for joining us.
hi Mike,
when u have a chance go to the video page n enter Horseman.
it is a tribute to the Blues, in particular Al Taddeo, the last surving member of the original Blues, he was 90 yrs old when the video was shot in '09. i had the honor of serving with LT Cmdr Taddeo in 1951 n 1952 when station at NAS Key West Fl, and flew with him several times on instrumentation training flts. i was an AD3. i live just outside Annapolis and see the Blues every year for Graduation week at the Academy. I have communicated with him a number of times via email. i was also on the bon homme Richard at th same time as Greg's dad, but did not know him. But we use to play cards in the riggers room.
Outstanding, you must be so proud. I am sure that watching the Blue Angels from an eraly age started my son thinking about the Navy. Just think of the positive influence you son will have on thousands of people.
Congrats to Dave!! You must be very proud and feel very blessed to have your son selected to join such an elite team that inspire so many to serve and support our military.
Congratulations Mike, your son is in some very elite company with a great amount of responsibility. If the plane isn't right the pilot can't thrill the public with his/her precise maneuvers. The "crew" is what allows it to work.
My family has been lucky enough to see the Blue Angels perform a hand full of times. They are the ELITE and I can't imagine the pride you have for David becoming a part of them. And working for #1, what an honor!
Hey Mike, are there any plans for the Blue Angels to do flyovers at Yankee Stadium this summer? I just put in an application for a Stadium Security job, and that would be amazing if I got the gig, and got to see the Blue Angels fly by!
Not that I am aware. The only NY show this year is in Rochester. Millville, NJ, is part of a Navy week in Philly. They still have an open date for 4th of July weekend this year so I guess it is possible if there is something going on there that weekend. Next year (2012), they are scheduled to be in Hudson River, NY, (which seems to encompass a large area) and Jones Beach. I don't know if they do fly overs for small sporting events, although they might for something like a Super Bowl or World Series.
Nice article! I wondered if people actually complain about the military spending money on demonstation flights and such. It's a recruiting tool! And a very good one! The Blues were on "half time" that weekend so they weren't flying; it was a 3 day break for them or they may have done it.
The subject is brough up everyday around here. I was under the impression that a flight like this was a training tool and came out of training budget. Being on target on time is training to me. Also if weather or something else came up they would have to go to Plan-B to finish the mission, that is also training. I think people spend way to much time trying to find something to complain about. At least I try to think positive, life is to short to be negative.
Mike, I am heading out in the morning to see the Angles and hopefully meet your Son. If he says he meet someone with a shirt that looks like a big Texas Flag then he is talking about me.
Mike, You might enjoy a lot of pictures n stories about the Blues by looking up a young lady by the name of Jacuqueline Curcio on facebook.. There is something nearly everyday.
How are you. I'm new to this stuff so i'm slow. I live in Fawn Grove,York county down at the MD line. My son is in Groton CT right now for BESS training. I'm trying to learn what I can about what my boy is doing. Thank you for the nice welcoming to your group.
Thanks Mike, I have gotten some great info in the last couple of days and am looking forward to the experience. I get out your way sometimes and will look you up the next time. I almost always stop at Famous, and in particular the new Leaf restaurant, and would enjoy joining you for a drink and/or a cigar. Dave
A lager sounds great. I will let you know the next time I plan to be in your area. In the '70s I was Army, Infantry Officer (O3) but detailed Aviation. I was a Helicopter pilot for most of the time I was in. I hope to look in one of the Navy's birds on the Tiger to see how much they have changed. I do miss the flying.
