Proud of what he has done and is doing and scared at the same time.
Good morning Calvin, thanks very much. I've already been checking out some of the rates and other information plus the videos. I'm former Air Force and have one son in Navy bootcamp and one son in Air Force bootcamp; they entered about a week apart, so I am doing a LOT of letter writing and keeping up! I know about Air Force training (at least, back in the day) but not much about the Navy. This site helps a lot.
Thanks for the welcome. I found you by googling Navy OCS, and you were on about the 2nd or 3rd page of listings, but by far one of the very best sites. I will study all the rules before starting to post. Mostly just want to get up to speed on what is happening to my son, the first of my kids to go military. You mentined "groups for PIR and Boot Camp" What is PIR?
Calvin thank you so much for the great info and the sites to check out! Def will keep u posted on my sons experiences. Am also looking to get involved in hopefully helping others here. Thanks again! Take care. Ric
Calvin thank you so much for the great info and sites to check out! Will def keep you posted on my sons experiences and places he goes. This truely is a fantastic site for family members to check out! Thanks again and take care! Ric
Calvin, thanks for the info. I'll be sure to give it all a look. I was an enlisted Nuc (one of the last IC's) and went on to become a Naval Flight Officer after an NROTC scholarship to the University of Florida where I got my engineering degree.
I was so proud of Matt's decision; he's doing so very well. We have received a dozen or so phone calls since he's been on the Lincoln and I can honestly say that we have not heard the first negative word. Thankful for that.
hey calvin. Thank you for welcoming me into the navy family. I'm sorry it took so long to respond, i've been trying to figure out the site. Thank you for the info you've sent me. it seems i have some homework to do. I'll keep my new family up to date on my son; and i look forward to updates on all the other sons and daughters serving this great country.
Calvin: Thanks for the kind words and suggestions. My wife and I will check in frequently and, when we're able to, we'll add suggestions and support for others, too.
Hello Calvin, Thank you for the warm welcome. Its amazing how Navy minded one becomes when one of our loved ones decides to join up. I can honestly say that my son has grown more as a man in the last 15-months than I can even remember. He is deployed right now and says all the time how much he enjoys what he does.
Navy Dads, Does anyone have any tips or recommendations for getting on an Tiger Cruise on the USS Enterprise in the next few months ??? I'm a greenhorn and it would be very special for my Navy Daughter Olivia and I. Thanks guys and or gals.
Calvin; Thanks for the Welcome Aboard. Unlike many on this site I never had the same trepidation when my son Dennis enlisted since I had served 20 year active Naval service. Now my son has served about 18 years active and he may wind up with 30 or so depending what happens during his command tour with HS-5 Night Dippers soon to be HSC-5. His squadron deployed two weeks ago aboard the IKE. He is Home ported in Norfolk, VA.
Calvin; I don't hear from my son much either but my wife does as both Den and wife are on face book. Den, being XO of the squadron,he puts out a NIGHTDIPPER NEWS each week so I do get the latest info. Little Creek housing is where my son, daughter-in-law and the 5 grandchildren live. We just returned home from there about 10 days ago.
My daughter enlisted 3 years ago and was based at the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Ballston Spa, NY. How can I send her a letter without an exact address?
Thank you Calvin. Gaby called me Friday at 1:00am for just 5 seconds. Said I will receive a box in 3 days, but no box yet. I have letters ready to mail, just waiting for his address. I also been reading in here and found comfort, there are other parents like me, that all this is new. But I know our kids, (no more kids) will do great. Thank again :)
thank you for your advice and welcoming me aboard my son left july 18 we havent heard from him yet its to soon. but we know he graduates september 14 so me and my wife look forward to his graduation. what should we expect for that day can anyone answer us i would appreciate it thank you and god bless you all.
Thank you Calvin for all your kind words and inspiring message. My son Richard starts bootcamp today and I plan on utilizing this great site as much as I can.
Thanks for the Welcome. I a few short hours we (mom, dad, 3 sons) will be leaving for Great Lakes to proudly witness our son Tom's graduation. I can't believe it's been 30 years since I did the same! Next up is Seabee "A" School. My heart is full!
Thanks for all the great information. Our son Daniel just arrived at Great Lakes the evening of August 15th. We have not been through this before so groups like this really help us to know what Dan is experiencing.
Hey Calvin I really appreciate this! You have no idea us admins have to have a role model too.. You da man... And no matter how my co-workers hate it I say "GO BOYZ"... hehe..
Thank you for the warm welcome. Catherine has been in the reserve for about 1 1/2 years. She is currently assigned to Msron 12 and getting ready for her first deployment. We were very proud of her when she did the PIR and then went to Texas for MA training. I just found this site and look forward to being a member.
Thanks for the information Calvin. I am Army, and my daughter is active Air Force. I know little about the Navy and will have to learn a lot, so I can have intelligent discussion with my son. I will take your advice and check out the other forums.
Calvin
Thank you for the Welcome Aboard to NavyDads. I have already found the website to help ease some of my concerns and I feel apart of a bigger family. In my experience as a high school administrator, I have watched many families go through this process never imagining that I would be going through it myself one day. Now I will be able to help them better as well as helping my own family. Thank you for welcoming me and God Bless all of our sailors.

Thanks Calvin. I went ahead and made some profile changes. It may be premature, but I'd far rather err on the side of caution. My son just earned an AIRR contract and is now interested in going after a SEAL contract, (changing paths) before he ships out to Great Lakes. I'm a bit bewildered by it all to be honest.
I appreciate what you all do and fully understand time constraint. Other rhan these navy support boards I use another email to keep free of rift raft. Will just delete email. Thanks for your reply and service you provide.
Thank you sir. I wish I had known about this site when my son started boot camp, or was in Power School and Prototype. This is a great site with tons of useful information for military families.
Thank you for the kind words. Our son is the first to serve from my side of the family, my wife is a Navy brat. Her father went thru the academy and graduated in 1957. Her brother graduated in 1986 and her other brother served 20 years in the fleet. We can't wait to see what he can do. I will be on this site ofter. Jason is half way thru with basic on his way as a air rescue swimmer.
Thank you Calvin. My father was in the Navy & then the Army and served during the Korean War. My FIL was in the Army for Peace Keeping after Korea. My BIL was a Marine and was sleeping outside the Beirut barracks which were bombed in 1983. My Grandfather was in the Italian Army. I also have other relatives that served or are currently serving.
We are proud of our son, but I am nervous at the same time.
Thank you to all the men & women who are serving or have served. It's because of people like you that we enjoy the freedom & lives we have today. God Bless America!
Thank you Calvin, our son will be heading to BC Oct, 29 I hope to meet some other parents that will have their son/daughter in the 800 division to share info.
Thank you for your response and the Welcome aboard! A huge congrats to your Grandson for getting his Trident! My Son was just deployed yesterday and is on his way to only God knows where. I guess I'm having a bit of a tough time with him leaving because of what's going on and where they are going to be heading. My second oldest Son is currently serving in the Army and is in Afghanistan. Having both of my boys deployed at the same is pretty rough. Luckily my son Devon will be coming home by December. It seems like the closer he gets to coming home the more nervous I tend to get. Sorry, I'm starting to ramble lol. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you and I'm looking forward to spending a lot more time on this site.
