I'll bet that was a really nice week together! I really cannot remember the last time that I've seen Eric and Kat toghter....want to say about 4 1/2 years ago.....man time flies whne you have fun!
Pretty quite on the kid's front....Kat is counting down the months....eight to go she says. Think she'll stay in the Everett area and head to school. Eric is prety quiet too....doing the MA thing now and doing the security watches now that the ship is in port for a few years. We'll see what happens down the road as this is all still pretty new though he was supposed to finally get into barricks this week and off the ship.
Whats next for Andrew? He was getting a car as I remember and was going to have some flexibility and wheels......
thanks for asking. Evan is doing good. They are two months into their cruise right now and his updates have been positive. He's working on the flight deck and says that it is a little hot up there. Long hours and hard work. Cindy and I are planning our trip to San Diego to see the ship come, we can't wait. So we get short updates every couple of days and from what we gather he is loving work but can't wait to come home again for a visit.
So how has Andrew been doing? Is he still loving Hawaii?
Hi Chuck....been a crazy couple of weeks between work and the site. Finally getting around to catching up on messages....just in time to get behind again!
Both doing OK....Kat had a coupel of weeks of leave..stayed in Everett as her mom drove up from Vegas to visit taking all kinds of Kat's old stuff up to her. They spent the time doing girlie stuff and I guess had a good visit, though they were out on montain bikes and Kat ended up with 7 stiches in the palm of her left hand. She's back to work now, and the realization has hit she has 7 months left in the Navy so she is making school plans and all those kind of things. She's looking forward to getting out but will stay up there..has an apartment and boyfriend. eric is doing ok too...they moved the Roosevelt from Norfolk up toe Northrop's area in Newport News to start the reactor refuel job (40 months worth). He's in security right now and is working nights.....guess the yard is a very high crime area and since it is not a military installation there are problems with vehicle security and all the other things taken for granted on a base. He'll survive....and working night has cut into the party hours (A GOOD THING) so he's lloking to start exercising on a regualr basis again and cutting out the adult beverages (Also a good thing.....).
How's Andrew doing....still at Whidbey I assume? Getting pretty far along in his training I imagine!!
Dooooh--- I knew that about Hawaii....I don't know where the Whidbey Island came from!! Sometimes my feeble mind just comes up wierdness like that!!! Wishing Andrew good luck on the E4 test....Eric was studying for his second-class but think that might get delayed with the change now to nights and all.....................
Hey Chuck, good to hear from you. Buck is still in Panama City Fl. He is in his third month of dive school and is due to graduate in November. I took his car to him last month and took a tour of the base and it was pretty neat. Buck has become a fitness junckie. They work out/get worked out all the time, and I think he actually enjoys it lol. How is Andrew doing these days?
Best of luck on that test score Chuck. We, as a nation, are going through a fundemental shift in thinking and support for the military....I fear the destination will be far worse than the journey and am starting to loose sleep with worry for our children and our country. Pray for us as I think only divine intervention may save us!!
Hi Chuck. I work for Bombardier Aerospace in CT. We have other service centers in Fort Lauderdale, Dallas, Wichita, and Tucson. I was an AE in the Navy and they are hard to find in the civilian market. Tell your son to check us out when he gets out.
Hi Chuck! Thanks for the welcome! I am located in south central Pennsylvania - York to be exact. My husband is actually at GL now in boot camp. Counting down the days til his PIR on 12/18.
Absolutely! I'm hoping the weather holds up as we are planning on driving. If not I guess I'll have to hijack a snowplow! I'm really looking forward to it. How about you? When is your son's PIR?
How proud you must be. My husband (John) grew up a Navy Brat on Ohau for 8 years. What a fabulous place to be stationed. He is actually entering the Navy Reserves - a Seabee - so we won't be leaving PA. Which, with a teenage daughter, is probably a good thing.
Hey Chuck , been a while since I've been on here so I thought I would say hi. How is Andrew doing? Buck is now in Guam for the next three years and seems to be enjoying it so far. He is assigned to the USS Frank Cable AS-40. He is in the Dive unit there. Buck graduated from Dive school in November and is now a ND3 and making the big bucks lol. Have a safe and Merry Christmas and I'll talk at ya later.
hey Chuck....how's things? Yep...Kat is at sea and think heading back to Everett very soon...this is her last underway and only has about 30 more days in the Navy. I cannot believe it has been five years already...the time has flown by! She wants to go to school in the Seattle area...and spend more time with her boyfriend.....thinkTHAT is the priority right now!!!
Eric doing ok...heading back to AIMD very soon...he is really tired of security detail and it will be good for him to do something with his hands again....
Glad to head that Andrew surivied "the BIG wave"....it certainly is nothing to take lightly-- mucho better to be prepared and not need it than to be caught off-guard....
Awesome! Perfect weather, glorious ride on the horse drawn carraige to the site with my daugther, and a very emotional welcome toast by me including honoring our military. I hope to post the toast video soon! Thank you for your prayers, well wishes, and support!
Hey Chuck..guess you know that Sailor of the Week!! Pretty dull around these parts...Kat getting used ot being a civilian and still planning for school this fall. Eric still in Norfolk...another two years in RCOH for the Roosevelt...generally upset about scroing a 97 on the Second Class test and not getting advanced...oh well.....whatz the latest with Andrew?
Hey Chuck,
Thanks for asking! Zachary is doing well. He and his wife are expecting and currently he is on a DET in Qatar. Got a great wake up yesterday, he called me (via SKYPE computer/telephone) for Father's Day! He is looking ahead as well and is considering going STA-21 [guess he figures he can then "order" me around! : ) ] It is a very good feeling indeed when our young men start thinking ahead instead of the next party or the coming weekend. I thank the Lord that He is working in Zachary's life and will continue to pray that he listens!
Tell Andrew to talk to people who have HIS best interest in mind as he considers his future in the Navy.
Thanks Chuck....I sure missed all you great Navydads!! Sorry to hear about your other son...I'm sure whatever career path he chooses he will do great!!
hahaha! that is pretty funny. i always feel pretty safe up in the air, even when things go extremely wrong, like not being able to drop the landing gears because of no hydraulic fluid. but honestly, it is a pretty safe air craft and the guys who keep fixing her up do an amazing job.
Hi Chuck! Please send your son my thanks for his service and my best wishes. As the P-3 community continues to shrink, it's awesome to see young sailors keeping it alive. He truly is a part of a legacy platform (tell him to keep those Orion patches ;).
As for your daughter going NROTC, I highly recommend it! My oldest is having great time.., so much so that when asked, he associates himself with his battalion well before his school. He's just waiting out his commission now.
haha... That's an awesome pic! .. Now, *that's* the 'real' blue water Navy! Us P-3'ers had it easy ;) Right Andrew? Dining on the town, sleeping in a real rack, sucking down the bottle of O2 before arriving on station (just to piss off the parariggers). Ah, the memories.
Chuck, thanks for the friendship. I was an AW in VP-26 (Tridents) 1980-1984. I still stay in touch with quite a few of the old navy buddies. One of them was an AWAN in VP-26 with me, now he is a retired Master Chief. He did do a tour with the Skinny Dragons. P-3 community is a great place to be, with the near future of the P-8 it should be even better.
Congrats to your son. Stay in touch.
Hey Chuck...still kinda of a status-quo hold for Eric...but I guess PTS recrods are squared away now and latest was that he was re-enlisting on 26th which is also his birthday. Hawaii orders still verbal so we'll have to see if the Einsteins in DC give the Navy any money for PCS transfers......Kat has started school at Seattle Institute of Art and Design for interactive media which is what she was doing in the Navy....so things are moving along for both I guess. how is Andrew doing?
Kind of ironic, from what i hear and remember, training excercises for them can be pretty tough, but i think it's more of a compliment to the Sub force than a ding on the Sub hunters.....
I want to say it again Chuck ...It is going to be a whole new experience when the daughter goes. Stay connected to her for the next 3 months..lol. I kid you not. My daughter and I just went for walks and talked about anything and everything. Please enjoy that time.
hey Chuck...meant to message you about Andrew making back to the mainland, but silly work got in the way---this is my first day off in weeks!!! Eric doing "OK"....doesn't like it much there. He's dealing with some medical issues that could have serious implications for his future in the Navy.....and dealing with a potentially serious mechanical issue (possible spun number 6 main bearing) with his beloved SS Trailblazer.....how is Andrew adapting to Washington weather?
Any prayers would ease my mind for sure! He had two compression fractures in his spine from a bicycle incident in 2000 that are giving him great amounts of pain and discomfort.....he is finding it very difficult to perform his job repairing the SH-60's at the base and is working with medical to define the problem and what can be done
that would be awesome if he could make it....I'll keep it in my prayers that all works out! Eric doing OK I guess....RIMPAC has them working veeeery long hours.....
Chuck, I am also from Pennsylvania. Didn't do or say much until my son arrived and settled. He seems to be adjusting and learning the ropes.I see you have two in. My youngest (daughter) has considered it, but has health issues that have kept her from taking the plunge. It has been good for Cody.
My son is an AM, and enjoys what he is doing. We talk fairly often (phone or text) when he's not on duty. I know it is a little tougher when they are away. He took in a soccer game last night and got to enjoy Seattle a little. Enjoyed your pictures. Family is important to us as well.
Chuck, LOL! I assure you I never disappeared, just got stuck working behind the scenes for far too long. But, glad you remember the good old days when I had tons of free time on here, man I miss those days... I hope you and the family are doing well.
Hi Chuck, everyone is doing fine. Garrett is still in Pensacola as a Rescue Swimmer instructor, while Valerie is a 1st Lt. in the Marines back from Afghanistan in October, now getting ready for a new deployment shortly. She is really loving her role, and truly feels that she was born to do this! I hope your two are doing well as well! Thanks for reaching out. All the best!

Yes he is chuck. He said they dropped more live ordnance than they did on their whole last deployment. He was tired and glad to be back on the beach.
Now he's talking about re-enlisting and would like us to come when he does.
