When my son first enlisted in the Navy I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to his future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads but found out I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and hope this site will benefit fathers that follow behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your Sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. They are only allowed to have a few personal items from home. Scripture, journal, etc. When my son was in boot over two years ago they let the recruits keep watches they showed up with on their arm. My only guess is once word got out about keeping the watch, they banned it as well.
The biggest obstacle in boot camp is the timed run. The watch is a huge advantage in keeping up with your timed runs during practice, to let you know the pace needed to run in 1 of the 3 timed runs during boot camp. I believe it is a 1 1/2 mile in less then 13 minutes. Makes sense them getting rid of them.
The bright side is! You won't have to buy him a new watch at graduation. HooYah!
