Graduation

It was "AWESOME". Need I say anymore. The staff at the base were friendly and very helpful. Other than the hour wait to get into the base (traffic) when we could not complain. And this was at 6:00 in the morning.

When they give liberty call, we caught up with Kyle. He broke the news to us, he had to leave for A school in just a few hours.

I remember reading where some parents met them at the airport. So we made the mad dash back by our room, changed and drove down to O'Hara… Continue

Battle stations

We have been waiting word from Kyle if he passed "Battle Stations".

We learned late yesterday afternoon that he did indeed pass, by way of "facebook and girlfriend".

Here we have been waiting on that important phone call. And who does he call, his girlfriend.

You talk about a let-down. To top it off, my wife was reading her facebook page, she saw where Heather had posted Kyle's passing on it! My wife had to call Heather, to find out all the details.

All in all, we are still… Continue

cell phones

Our son Kyle is graduating from boot camp on July 17th. He is not scheduled to leave for "A" school until the 25th of July. In his last letter, he has requested that we bring his cell phone with us for him to have.

He is being assigned to ship 5 until he leaves for "A" school.

I read that as long as they are assigned to RTC, they are not allowed cell phones. Is this still true for Ship 5 rules?

When can he receive his cell phone after he goes to "A" school?

Does anyone… Continue

getting closer to PIR

Hello all,

Even though I haven't posted since I joined this site, I still check in every few days to see what is going on. I have learned a lot of information from this site.

It has been very helpful and comforting to know that I am not the only parent who has concerns.

we are scheduled to leave for the Great Lakes on the 15th of July for PIR on the 17th.

We are looking forward to seeing Kyle. In the last letter we received, he said he had gotten his Navy whites. He said… Continue

leaving for boot camp

Posted on May 19, 2009 at 5:10pm 2 Comments

well my son Kyle left Atlanta, Monday afternoon. We had a going away party for him on Sunday afternoon. a large number of family and friends came out to say good-by.

although Kyle said he did not want a big to-do. But he really enjoyed the party.

Late last night, Kyle called home and said " i don't have much time to talk, we made it to boot camp, you will get a box and a letter from me in about 3 weeks."

we could hear the instructor in the back ground, for them to hurry… Continue

Mike, wasn't your PIR amazing? I couldn't have been able to explain to people home awesome it was. You just have to experience it yourself. Sorry about Kyle being G&G but at least you got the airport time with him. I sure hope the eldery woman is okay.

Welcome to NavyDads Mike! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric just returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat returned last fall from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Mike this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Kyle is doing!

As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your son is going through. Thanks to one of our members we have two excellent videos that you can access from the Video area on the NavyDads.com main page: New Bootcamp 1 of 2 and New Bootcamp 2 of 2. These videos will answer many of your questions and concerns and will give you a better understanding of how the United States Navy transforms our children into sailors!

Be sure to spend some time in the Bootcamp group- there are many questions and answers available to help you understand what your sailor is going through. And as PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailor's PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul

Mike I'm glad you found us. Tell Kyle not to worry. My son loved boot camp. He said he would have stayed there for four years if they would let him have his cell phone. Evan played sports growing up but went to boot camp way out of shape and had no problems with the physical part. Kyle's nerves are normal. Tell him we are all supporting him here at Navy Dads and are proud of his decision to defend our Freedom. We can't thank him enough for stepping up to the plate. It takes a special person to make a commitment like he has done. I can't wait to see the pics of him once he is a United States Sailor.

Sincerely, EG

Mike, Welcome Aboard! I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Kyle for his service for me and yours as well. Thanks again for joining us.
Sincerely, EG
