How do you support their decisions and act like you are not dying inside

My son is in A School right now and I am loving it that he can call me all of the time. The question that keeps nagging at me is why he wants to volunteer for deployments. I know that it is why he joined but it scares the life out of me. He called last night and said mom I am getting a medal for making expert on shooting the 9mm. Before I could tell him how proud I was he finished the sentence with "and just wanted you to know that if I can I am going t o volunteer for Byrain"(not sure how to… Continue

Hey Everyone!

I know that it has been a while since I have written. I went to graduation and had a great weekend Coty. My mom and sisters went with me and we all had the best time. I have never had so much pride in my heart when I saw my son standing in formation. I was told that there was no way that I could pick him out of all of those recruits. I picked him out just as soon as he came in. I had my eye on him the whole time. I didn't even care about the secretary of defense walking… Continue

Any Suggestions for the weekend at Great Lakes

Posted on June 25, 2009 at 1:03pm 5 Comments

I got the invitation to graduation on Tuesday and my son sent a letter along with it saying to make sure that my tickets were refundable and all of that . You could tell that he is worried that he will get held back and not graduate. He says that his whole division talk about it all of the time. He will be graduation on the 17th of July (hopefully) and I am not sure of where to stay and what to do for the weekend because he says that the division will get liberty weekend. I am keeping my… Continue

I was so excited today. I was sitting at work and my phone started vibrating. I reached into my lab coat and answered without looking at the number. A familiar voice said hello mom i love you. It took all I had to hold it together. We got to talk for a while. I didnt cry until we hung up but boy was it hard. He sounded good but said that he was worried about graduating. I told to keep his head up and I knew that he could do it. He is doing great guys.He just wants more letters and hes going to… Continue

Welcome to NavyDads Cotysmom! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric just returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat returned last fall from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Cotysmom this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Stephen is doing!

As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your son is going through. Thanks to one of our members we have two excellent videos that you can access from the Video area on the NavyDads.com main page: New Bootcamp 1 of 2 and New Bootcamp 2 of 2. These videos will answer many of your questions and concerns and will give you a better understanding of how the United States Navy transforms our children into sailors!

Be sure to spend some time in the Bootcamp group- there are many questions and answers available to help you understand what your sailor is going through. And as PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailor's PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul

Cotysmom, Welcome Aboard! I'm so glad to have the Navy Moms on here to keep us men in line. My son is an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca. and my family and I couldn't be prouder of him. When he first enlisted I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. We have many moms on the site and benefit greatly from their point of views and we are willing to help the moms in any way we can. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Stephen for his service for me and thanks again for joining us.
Sincerely,EG
